Position Description

ABOUT THE COURT
Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles (Court) is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 40 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 4,500 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $855 million. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,084 square miles and, with over 10,400,000 residents, is also one of its most populous counties.

ABOUT THE POSITION
We are seeking motivated individuals who are looking for a fulfilling career with opportunities for advancement. This is an exciting opportunity for dedicated, service-oriented individuals to serve the residents of Los Angeles County. Judicial Assistants are front and center in Los Angeles County courtrooms and play a vital role in providing access to justice every day!

Judicial Assistants work alongside judicial officers, legal counsel, court staff, jurors, and members of the public in an exciting courtroom environment. They are tasked with the vital responsibility of managing the daily flow of courtroom activities to ensure the courtroom runs efficiently. Among other duties, Judicial Assistants maintain the official record of the court (documenting all case dispositions and decisions), act as a liaison between judicial officers and other parties, manage case exhibits, administer oaths, and manage the daily court calendar.

In preparation for this multi-faceted role, Los Angeles Superior Court provides a four to six-month, robust, cohort-based learning program. The program is designed to provide litigation instruction, case management system application, on-the-job training, and professional guidance. This combination of classroom and on-the-job training takes place at various locations throughout the county including Monrovia, and downtown Los Angeles. After successful completion of the training program, trainees promote to the position of Judicial Assistant and are assigned to one of the Court's 12 districts throughout Los Angeles County, while still being expected to serve in any courtroom throughout the County. After 12 months as a Judicial Assistant, employees may apply to be placed on a transfer list for other locations in the county. Applicants should be able to successfully transition from an academic environment to a fast-paced and demanding courtroom environment.
