Job Description
One candidate is wanted by a small, multi-strategy, hedge fund in the vicinity of New York City (Connecticut) for the following position:
Jr Investment Analyst/ Trader
To join a team of 7, reporting directly to the Portfolio Manager.
The role requires a flexible approach to tasks as the candidate will help out with both the analyst and trading teams.
Candidates are expected to support the teams in:
- Designing investment strategy, both fundamentally and event-driven, utilizing different asset classes in trading strategies, including options.
- Gathering intelligence and developing quantitative and qualitative analysis to uncover key insights about target investments in public and private markets.
- Reviewing, analyzing, modeling and generating valuation data and market reports. Evaluating and summarizing portfolio company, industry, sponsor, and valuation metrics on investment opportunities.
- Contributing to alternative data gathering and processing. Some assignment travel is to be expected.
- Examining and assessing economic and market trends, earnings prospects, financial statements and various other indicators and factors to determine suitable investment strategies.
- Liaising with fellow team members and performing in-depth due diligence in order to arrive at a final recommendation on trading opportunities;
- Screening investment opportunities, contributing to due diligence and monitor existing investments. Monitoring financial press closely and keeping a track of market trends, opportunities, risks and new investment products.
- Developing solutions to analytical problems independently.
Candidate Requirements
- A strong passion for investment in financial markets.
- Excellent analytical AND communication skills.
- Ability to think outside-the-box, adapting to alternative and unorthodox strategies if the situation requires it. Non-consensus views are welcomed.
- Ability to develop a thoughtful investment thesis.
- Interest in idea generation.
- Have at least one of the following:
- CFOA (Certified Futures and Options Analyst)
- CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)
- Completed TrendUp Now Program Level 3 AND the TrendUp SRP track (i.e. TrendUp's career program for participants who have demonstrated excellent performance)
- In possession -or currently pursuing for internship applicants- a degree in Finance, Business, Economics or Accounting. Degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering and similar quant fields are also welcome. Exceptional candidates with more unorthodox backgrounds may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- 2+ years of relevant Finance / Investment experience.
- Be eligible to work in the United States of America.
- Please note that strong preference will be given to candidates who have graduated from the TrendUp Now L-program.
Please note that while this position may still be fully remote, it may transition to hybrid/F2F during 2024.
Base salary range does not include overtime pay, bonus and/or other benefits, where applicable. Actual base salary offer will vary based on skills and experience.
