The County of San Mateo Jobs for Youth Summer Internship places Jobs for Youth Members who are between 18-21 in County Departments for 8-10 weeks. The internship program provides young adults valuable work experience, the opportunity to develop employment skills, and incredible opportunities to network! Internships start in June or July.
Jobs for Youth is seeking Summer Interns (I/II) to help connect youth to employment opportunities in various County of San Mateo departments.
Offices may be located in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont, San Mateo, South San Francisco, Half Moon Bay, or Daly City. Applicants must be 18 years old before June 1, 2024. Applicants must be available to work up to 40 hours a week Monday through Friday; positions vary between 20- 40 hours a week.
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.
Examples Of Duties
The Summer Intern I/II may provide:
- Assistance with office and administrative support.
- Assistance with special projects.
- Assistance with researching or data entry.
- Providing customer service to the public and internal customers.
Qualifications
In order to apply, the following criteria must be met:
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Must be between the ages of 18 and 21
- Must reside or attend school in San Mateo County
- Must successfully pass a background investigation prior to employment
- Must be a Jobs for Youth Member or attend a 1-hour career skills course through Jobs for Youth prior to employment
- Must have an appropriate workspace for remote work and a stable internet connection
Ideal candidates will have the following competencies:
- Motivated high school graduate
- Excellent written and oral skills
- Developing research skills and comfort with conducting research online
- Ability to manage time effectively and to meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong email etiquette
