Description
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Job Readiness Instructor develops and delivers a high-quality curriculum for Job Readiness skills for adult learners experiencing homelessness and other barriers to employment and education. The instructor provides classes, small group, and individual study in resume and cover letter writing, online job applications, Google and MS Suite, job boards, interview skills, goal setting, job search strategy, and time management. The instructor works closely with the students, Job Center and ECS staff to provide engaging, quality, student-centered classes. The instructor is able to understand the basic principles and standards of job search, interviews, etc.......
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Develops and teaches the Job Center's Job Readiness classes and labs, along with additional tutorials, small group, and other classes as assigned.
  2. May conduct or assist with student intake into classes and perform initial and on-going assessments.
  3. Conducts individual and group instruction through demonstration, lecture, and cooperative learning activities / project-based learning. Utilizes multi-sensory, interactive and LD appropriate teaching methods.
  4. Utilizes both whole language and constructivist techniques appropriate for adult learners with learning differences and challenges.
  5. Structures classes and tutorials to meet individual student's needs, both academic and personal.
  6. Coordinates with Job Center, community-based and other ECS staff to structure and implement programming that enhances occupational skills and Job Readiness.
  7. Develops innovative and appropriate lesson plans and class handouts in accordance with student needs and current educational standards.
  8. Utilizes and modifies curriculum, selects course materials, and implements new components to courses. Documents course outlines and content.
  9. Works closely with workforce development leadership to integrate, sequence, and align classes and curricula to meet job development and job shadow needs.
  10. Integrates technology and other workplace skills competencies into lesson plans.
  11. Designs and updates Service Plans for all students in attendance.
  12. Delivers instruction in systematic and comprehensive manner, so that student's progress can be marked and documented.
  13. Coordinates, directs, and supervises volunteer tutors, if applicable.
  14. Maintains calm, engaging, and safe environment for students at all times.
  15. Meets with students regularly to coordinate education plans with other social service needs and / or agencies. Provides information and referrals to students concerning social service needs.
  16. Substitutes for other teachers and computer classes when needed.
  17. Assists management in interviewing and orienting new staff.
  18. Advocates to outside agencies on behalf of students to support their educational and vocational goals.
  19. Ensures that curriculum is appropriate to the needs of homeless adults and conducts student evaluations of materials.
  20. Coordinates curriculum and instruction with the other programs of the Job Center.
  21. Creates brochures, course descriptions and flyers pertaining to the program.
  22. Participates as a team member with other teachers for the design, implementation and evaluation of classes and program.
  23. Maintains attendance and student performance records.
  24. Creates accurate and timely program reports when requested.
  25. Attends scheduled department staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  26. Conducts classes and services in a way that demonstrates ECS's commitment to dignity and respect for all clients.
  27. Designs and delivers culturally appropriate services that respond to student needs.
  28. Abides by ECS codes of confidentiality.
  29. Performs other related duties as required to facilitate the delivery of the education and CHEFS programs.

Qualifications
Requirements:
A BA degree in Education or related field, plus a minimum of three years of recent, paid teaching experience workingwith adults, and at least 5 years as a working professional. Strong technology and computer skills, and a preference for someone with experience instructing in computers and/or technological literacy. Fluency in both Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite required. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of different student learning styles. Experience with a multi-cultural, low-income, marginalized population. Ability to adapt curriculum and lessons to the needs of homeless adults.
Other:
Must secure finger image screening, annual TB screening, and be fully vaccinated showing proof of COVID vaccination and boosters. Will honor and abide by Episcopal Community Services rules and regulations, including confidentiality.
