Position Summary:
Purchase products and negotiate best vendor support programs for the Jewelry division. Responsible for profitability and productivity of stock. Role model and demonstrate the Company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of self and others.
Frequent independent judgments are essential. Fred Meyer also requires that all associates perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.
Essential Job Functions:
- Model "Customer 1st" behavior; deliver and encourage other associates to deliver excellent customer service
- Negotiate, select, and purchase merchandise from vendors
- Communicate effectively, both internally and externally
- Help implement solutions to problems and act decisively to develop and execute appropriate action plans
- Make timely, sound purchasing decisions by assessing large amounts of data
- Analyze assortment presentation (in store and online) and merchandise accordingly
- Secure co-op advertising dollars from vendors
- Develop advertising campaigns; select merchandise to advertise
- Secure Stock Balance and Salvage Allowance from vendors
- Confirm adherence to Fred Meyer Jewelers vendor guidelines
- Maintain excellent communication with store associates
- Create business plans
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility through prudent and effective inventory management
- Price merchandise to maximize sales and profit potential, while remaining competitive
- Identify areas of performance which do not meet expectations and develop strategies to improve those areas
- Drive development of the planning and forecasting process and the setting of inventory targets for each category
- Analyze competitive information and provide input to the Merchandising strategy to maximize performance
- Clearly communicate the strategy to the team and manage upward feedback
- Work effectively with all operational and analytical groups to achieve objectives
- Evaluate and make vendor return decisions on salvaged merchandise
- Responsible for proper liquidity management by effectively managing Open-to-Buy
- Complete competition comparison
- Direct, coordinate, and train the activities of the Buyer's Assistant
- Partner with Planner on vendor and category financial plans and strategies
- Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties, complete performance reviews, and provide feedback to direct reports
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
- BA/BS degree in business or related field plus two years of retail store operations experience; or combination of relevant education and experience
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Ability to pass a drug test
- Ability to work weekends on a regular basis
- Ability to travel independently on a regular basis
- Accuracy/attention to detail
- Ability to organize/prioritize variety of tasks/projects
- Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes
- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of Fred Meyer policies, procedures, and organizational structure
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Magic, and jewelry system software
- Retail store managerial experience
- Experience directing/ participating on project teams
- 40 WPM typing
