This position develops and revises new and existing intelligent transportation system(s) (ITS). Performs responsible technical work including the analysis, design and implementation of automated traffic management systems. May be responsible for administering information resources and telecommunication hardware/software located within an Intelligent Transportation Operations Center. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Analyzes, researches and recommends hardware and software needs, including assessing resources utilization and justification.
- Assists with planning and scheduling the installation and testing of hardware/software and troubleshooting
computer/telecommunication related problems. - Coordinates the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems, local area networks (LAN) and information security administration.
- Keeps abreast of new technology to improve current and projected systems.
- Provides technical assistance and support for ITS.
- Reviews and monitors contracts related to ITS.
- Reviews traffic management plans and inspects project sites to ensure compliance with system requirements.
- Provides technical assistance and inspections in the field as needed.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 1 YEAR experience in system analysis, design, computer programming. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs. at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
