Job Purpose
- Consumer and Dealer Applications department and its project delivery teams work to transform the customer experience across Honda’s brands and products. - The Scrum Master’s primary role is to help delivery teams work more effectively. With a focus on continuous improvement, the Scrum Master will work closely with the Product Owners and Project delivery teams, leading Agile practices related to customer- and dealer-facing digital products.
- Perform duties typical of a seasoned Scrum Master, including support the team’s adherence to agile practices and values, assist team members on the use of agile methodologies to achieve agile maturity, remove impediments to help the team progress on their deliverables, identify areas of improvement, and propel the agile process ensuring Scrum ceremonies take place, are time boxed and are positive and productive.
- The Scrum Master will support Product Owners and/or Delivery teams with product goal definition and backlog management and related documentation.
- This position requires extensive collaboration and cross-functional communication with IT, AHM associates, consultants, contingent workforce, and vendors with varying levels of Agile maturity to define product goals backlogs and roadmaps leading to succesful delivery.
Key Accountabilities
- Delivery of business value through utilization of Scrum framework:
o Coordinate and lead monthly release management activities.
o Manage risk to delivery by identifying and removing impediments and external interruptions that distract the team from delivering highest business value.
o Create and/or maintain product documentation and artifacts to support delivery, collaboration, and governance.
o Remain up to date with emerging technologies, mandatory software updates, understanding existing systems, data, and processes.
- Enable the Agile team’s efficacy:
o Challenge the team to continuously improve through intentional, data-driven inspection and adaption (retrospectives).
o Examine and drive team performance leveraging metrics such as capacity, burn down, velocity, etc., and ensure accurate and timely feedback to the team and transparency to Product Owner and executive stakeholders.
o Support and empower the Consumer Applications delivery teams and/or Product Owners to make appropriate commitments through story selection and task definition.
o Guide the team towards self-organization and cross-functionality; encourage, support, and enable the team to reach their full potential and abilities.
o For Scrum Masters with Direct Reports: Supervise work and performance. Lead, coach, and ensure performance growth and development.
o Track and manage team Visual Management Boards: Help teams to maintain their team
- Support the Product Owner’s partnership with other teams and stakeholders:
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, QA engineers, and stakeholders, to ensure successful delivery of product features.
o Negotiate with external stakeholders, other product teams, partner resources to facilitate the removal of impediments.
o Support the Product Owner with meetings, building connections, building innovative solutions that contribute towards stakeholder business objectives.
- Provide organizational coaching and best practice sharing on agile business practice/agile program management:
o Work with other Scrum master’s to ensure consistency in Agile practices across multiple teams.
o Identify and act on opportunities for continuous improvement to improve agile maturity.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or requisite experience, training, or coursework in agile development, innovation, and process management.
- Scrum Master certification (e.g., CSM, PSM, etc.).
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or Program Manager, preferably working in a digital product environment.
- Demonstrated experience working with agile teams delivering digital solutions.
- Expert understanding of Scrum framework, or other related agile methodologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with AHM staff, IT staff, 3rd party vendor staff across many teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface with all levels of management.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers as well as non-technical and technical personnel.
- Proficiency with Jira/Confluence, or similar agile management tools.
- Experience delivering Customer Facing Enterprise Digital programs involving numerous external vendors and internal teams is a plus.
- Automotive industry background, business acumen & understanding of OEM-Dealer eco-system is a plus
- Scaled Agile (SAFe) practitioner with experience in enterprise agile transformations is a plus
- Ability to lead and influence at all levels, without direct authority.
- Ability to manage ambiguity in a rapidly changing and high-paced environment.
- Ability to coach and mentor team and organization on agile practices.
- Possess strong problem solving, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Recognize when commitments are at risk, identify impediments and remove roadblocks to enable team to meet their commitments.
- Enable continuous improvement through data-driven decisions and observation.
