Idaho Power - headquartered in vibrant Boise, Idaho - is looking for an IT Project Manager or Senior to join our Information Technology team. It's an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does an IT Project Manager do for us?
Working independently, the IT Project Manager is responsible for managing medium to large, high-risk, multi-faceted technology projects and resources, providing mentoring, and coaching to other staff members, contributing directly to the maturity of the IT PPMO, and teaching project management courses for the organization. The Senior IT Project Manager will utilize IT PPMO standards to guide projects from initiation through completion. They will leverage techniques from both predictive and adaptive project approaches to deliver value while remaining on-time and within budget. The technology projects typically managed by the Senior IT Project Manager can range from 6-24 months duration and may have budgets exceeding $1 million. The projects may include, but are not limited to: software upgrades, hardware upgrades, software development, and off-the-shelf solution implementations. This position resides within the Information Technology (IT) PPMO organization.

REQUIRED SKILLS
Knowledge of:
  • Project management principles, preferably from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Predictive and adaptive project management processes and techniques
  • Business System Analyst (BSA) best practices including requirements management, business case development, process definition and improvement, and test management
  • Portfolio management, software development practices, and IT operations practices

Skills in:
  • Communication, leadership, scheduling, task management
  • Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
  • Meeting facilitation, quality management, risk management, and organizational change management
  • Microsoft products such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, Project/Project Server, Power BI, Azure DevOps Server
  • Critical thinking, negotiation, and coaching
  • Contract management, story mapping, and project recovery

Ability to:
  • Interact with and lead a wide range of employees, from technical staff to non-technical staff
  • Tailor communications to different audiences
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on the strategic/big picture
  • Learn quickly
  • Distinguish the most effective process, tools, and techniques to apply to each project with minimal assistance
  • Communicate effectively with mid and senior-level leaders
  • Seamlessly monitor and manage the details of a project while keeping the strategic purpose and deliverables in focus
  • Independently distinguish the most effective process, tools, and techniques to apply to each project
  • Mentor, coach, and teach others in project management practices
  • Take on projects outside of the technology space, as requested
  • Communicate effectively with executive-level audiences

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
IT Project Manager
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field

OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and/or certifications

Experience:
  • 2 years of experience in a project management role with a minimum of 1 year managing technology projects

Preferred:
  • Experience managing technology projects
  • Ability to manage projects using adaptive and predictive approaches

Licenses & Certifications:
Preferred:
  • PMI-PMP (Project Management Professional), PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner), and/or Certified Scrum Master

Senior IT Project Manager:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field

OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and/or certifications

Experience:
  • 5 or more years of experience in a project management role with a minimum of 3 years of experience managing technology projects
  • Proven ability to manage projects using adaptive and predictive approaches

Preferred:
  • Experience managing highly complex technology projects including but not limited to: enterprise-level technology implementations
  • Managing purchased solutions that include management of a vendor and/or contract resources

Licenses & Certifications:
Preferred:
  • PMI-PMP (Project Management Professional), PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner), and/or Certified Scrum Master

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Must be able to act in other project-related roles such as Scrum Master, Program Manager, or Business Systems Analyst (BSA). Partners with the contracting agent to ensure the contracts (MSA, SLA, SOW, etc.) align with company and technology requirements for desired project approach, implementation, and ongoing support. May act in the role of a Scrum Master. Participates in but is not directly responsible for contracting in projects.
