Position Description:
The Information Technology Mainframe Operator works under the direction of an Information Technology Systems Operations Supervisor who manages and oversees all aspects of work for the IBM mainframe systems. The Information Technology Mainframe Operator starts and stops system tasks, monitors the system consoles for unusual conditions, and works with the system programming and production control staff to ensure the health and normal operation of the systems. The Information Technology Mainframe Operator is also responsible for starting and stopping the major subsystems, such as transaction processing systems, database systems, and the operating system itself. These "restart operations" include performing an orderly shutdown and startup of the system and its workloads when it is required. The Information Technology Mainframe Operator communicates with system programmers, who assist the operator in determining the proper course of action, and with the production control analyst, who works with the operator to make sure that production workloads are completing properly.

The Information Technology Mainframe Operator will possess knowledge in decision making; organizational awareness; problem solving; oral communication and writing skills. The following technology skill sets are required to perform in this classification: IBM, Z/OS, CICS, NATURAL/SUPERNAT, IMS, DB2, ADABAS, ACF2, ENTIREX, SMP/E, ASSEMBLER/COBOL/REXX, CA SPOOL, JCL, CONTROL-M, IMS & DB2 BMC Tools, IMS DB/DC, VTAM, TCPIP, NETVIEW, HMC/HOD/IODF, Tivoli, MVM, JES2, ESF, Linux, Unix, p-Series, z-Series, & VTS.
experience performing all IPL (Initial Program Load) functions of enterprise mainframe systems, shutting and bringing LPARs, online ability to configure and restore mainframe consoles when they fall offline. Mainframe Operator should be competent in reviewing system logs, and determining root cause of failed processes, as well as killing votes and restoring transaction queues for same process abends or failed processes. ability to configure remote support for MFA, RDP, VPN, connection verification processes for teleworker duties. Must generate trouble tickets in corporate ticketing systems (Cherwell, Peregrine or other related ticketing system), Perform additional responsibilities as part of providing continuous operation to include: monitoring and performing analytic, diagnostic, and troubleshooting steps based upon issues observed among alerts in enterprise monitoring toolsets, including, but not limited to Uptime Robot, corporate URL status, host/server monitoring.
Experience Required:
Minimum 4 years experience IPL (Initial Program Load) of enterprise mainframe systems. Ability to configure and restore mainframe consoles when they fall offline. Ability to configure remote support for MFA, RDP, VPN, connection verification processes for teleworker duties. Minimum 2 years experience self directed on all aspects of remote access and telecommunications for mainframe as well as adjunct systems and enterprise monitoring toolsets. Minimum 2 years experience generating trouble tickets in corporate ticketing systems (Cherwell, Peregrine or other related ticketing systems). Minimum 1 year experience monitoring and performing analytic, diagnostic, and troubleshooting steps based upon issues observed among alerts/events in enterprise monitoring toolsets to include but not limited to: Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager - SCOM, WebCTRL or other environmental systems, Open Network Monitoring Systems, IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) Minimum 2 years experience creating proactive tickets and directing troubleshooting tasks to Subject Matter Experts in various technology areas. Minimum 2 years experience receiving helpdesk tickets directed to the Operations department and working to resolve related issues.
Education Required:
Equivalent of 5 years Subject Matter Expertise as a Mainframe Operator.
This classification requires the possession of a bachelor’s degree in an IT-related and/or equivalent in mainframe operations field.

Candidates must read, write, and speak English fluently. Local candidates only. Position is onsite. must be onsite 3 of 5 workdays per week.
