Summary:

Information Technology Services is a team of dedicated professionals providing core technology and cybersecurity services to agencies statewide, enabling state employees to serve Idaho's citizens. We sincerely hope you will consider being part of our success. Information Technology Services (ITS), currently has an opening for an IT Systems and Infrastructure Engineer IV position in our Chinden office in Boise. This position will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, installing, and/or deploying technologies, and work that typically includes contingency planning, configuration management, direct maintenance, and problem resolution. The selected individuals must have the ability to provide leadership in strategic technology planning and in the design, enhancement, implementation, and consultation on complex enterprise network, server or storage infrastructure; translate business requirements into business systems or networks; manage the development and implementation of complex systems, storage or networking infrastructure including systems administration, installation and maintenance; perform related work. Please note: The successful candidates will be required to pass multiple, comprehensive fingerprint-based background checks specific to the agencies ITS supports. Example of duties:

+ Troubleshoots technology problems, factoring in an understanding of the technical architecture;

+ Participates in system design, and contributes to technical insights and ideas with agency stakeholders;

+ Anticipates implementation obstacles and develops plans to address them;

+ Analyzes cross-technology and cross-platform issues;

+ Provides input into the technology plan for the organization and ensures that plans are integrated effectively with other aspects of the technical infrastructure;

+ Solves technical problems that may never have been encountered previously in the organization;

+ Provides recommendations for investment in new products and technology solutions, supported by appropriate ROI, total cost of ownership, and/or cost benefit analyses.

Minimum Qualifications:

Considerable knowledge of:

+ Current information technology trends and capabilities. Typically gained by an associate degree or equivalent college level/vocational-tech coursework directly related to current information technology OR at least two years of work experience in information technology. Education and experience must be within the last five years.

Experience

+ Planning, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting more than one element of architectural/infrastructure systems (e.g., network, server, or storage systems).

Typically gained by at least three years of full-time work experience where installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network, server or storage systems was part of your primary job responsibilities.

+ Resolving network or server problems.

Typically gained by at least two years of full-time work experience (within the last five years) where resolving network or server problems were part of their primary responsibilities.

+ Working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for user computing needs in a business environment.

Typically gained by at least two years of full-time work experience interviewing and consulting with clients/users to develop and implement solutions to meet computing requirements in a business environment as a primary responsibility of the job.

+ Experience as a project leader and team member on a multi-phase project.

Typically gained by work experience as an active team member in at least one major project of six months duration or longer. Experience must be within the last two years.

+ Some knowledge of supervisory practices.

Typically gained through supervisory experience that required work assignment, direction and monitoring with responsibility (or with significant input) for hiring employees, preparing performance evaluations, and resolving employee problems; or successful completion of courses or seminars that included all five elements of management: planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling.
