The IT Application Specialist is responsible for a considerable number of tasks including the installation and maintenance of computer applications, customizing those applications to meet specific needs and provide training and technical support for those applications. They also play a vital role in selecting or recommending applications based on requirements specified by the user community
Education / higher education: Bachelor's Degree
For required college degrees, applicable field(s) of study: Computer science, computer information
Minimum number of years of directly related experience: Two years of proven experience with system administration, network administration, support, or project management with IT systems. In lieu of a degree, incumbent must possess at least six years of related experience.
Education and/or experience preferences: Prefer progressive experience up to an advanced level in the IT field.in the Information Technology field.

Preferred certifications, licenses or registrations: Microsoft Certified Software Engineer, Certified Network Administrator, ITIL, PMP
Knowledge: Demonstrates ability and interest in the growth and learning of new skills, attend system related educational seminars/webinars to gain knowledge of product and upcoming vendor roadmap for future application strategies. Some travel may be involved.
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to effectively interpret and translate business needs and report on system trends or issues. Excellent interpersonal skills to develop effective trust relationships with the technical team and business users.
Abilities: Interact and assist computer users of varying skill levels, understand complex configuration, installation, and computer maintenance procedures. Handle confidential information, work independently and be proactive. Problem solve while maintaining good judgment. Effectively communicate and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing, establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with staff, Vendors, the public, and other professional contacts. Critically assess situations, maintain attention to detail, solve problems, work efficiently under stress, within deadlines, and changing work priorities.
Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with department supervisors or managers on routine assignments and special projects. Maintains harmonious, courteous, and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment. External: Works with equipment vendors to resolve hardware and software problems and presents a courteous and friendly image for the City. - Administer and maintain enterprise applications.
- Work with IT teams, Vendors and end users to ensure configuration, deployment, maintenance and testing of applications.
- Follow change management control processes.
- Create and maintain documentation.
- Work with vendors when necessary to troubleshoot issues and monitor/resolve support cases.
- Develops customized solutions where appropriate.
- Develops workflows to assure maximum utilization of the system.
- Use ticket management and change management systems following published procedures; respond to and resolve incident ticket escalations for areas covered by this position.
- Install and configure applications.
- Set up and manage accounts and permissions.
- Support and troubleshoot Applications.
- Monitor performance and uptime, maintain systems according to requirements.
- Troubleshoot issues and outages.
- Ensure security through creating, maintaining, and enforcing security policies.
- Participate in Cybersecurity compliance efforts and security audits.
- Upgrade systems with new releases and models.
- Participate in software automation within the City.
- Manage and configure current and new applications.
- Work closely with and assist other IT members and assist with daily issues when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
