Job description

Primary responsibility will be to operate tractors, maintain irrigation equipment and other farm machinery. Perform general fieldwork related to harvesting of hay on irrigation fields. Operate tractors and equipment safely and effectively.

Duties/Activities Required by Job

  • Operate equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines and irrigation equipment.
  • Daily inspection of equipment to make sure it is in working condition, including irrigation pivots and risers. Notify supervisors in case something is wrong.
  • Adjust farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions.
  • Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, using bolts and hand tools.
  • Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunction.

Educations/Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience as a farmer, farm hand, farm worker, farm laborer, agriculture operator or spreader operator. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have a current Driver's License.
  • Experience ploughing, drilling, harvesting (including combining), fertilizing (including relevant record keeping).
  • Must be able to work on own initiative with high degree of detail.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in farming.
  • Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • The ability to adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
  • The ability to time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to see objects or movement of objects to one's side when the eyes are looking ahead.
  • The ability to coordinate the movement of your arms, legs, and torso together when the whole body is in motion.
  • The ability to see under low light conditions.
  • Perform General Physical Activities requiring considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Able and willing to lift between 40 - 60lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in extreme cold/hot environments.
  • Able to perform strenuous work in wet/damp environments.
