Who Do We Want?
Becht has an immediate need for an IR Technician, in the United States, reporting to the Divisional Manager, Fired Heater Services, USA. The position is remote and has geographic flexibility. Good internet connection and access to a major airport are required. Becht is seeking an exceptional candidate with broad experience, preferably in the refining & petrochemical industry, who wants to take the next step in their career and join our world-class, family-owned organization. We are a rapidly-growing, multi-discipline firm providing engineering solutions, plant services and software tools to the energy sector. Many of our clients use Becht as their outsourced central engineering organization. In addition to engineering, we provide a suite of specialized services to our clients related to turnarounds, projects, training, heavy lift, inspection planning, fired heater services and other services.

Job Responsibilities
- Support field data capture requirements for infra-red (IR) thermography and equipment walkdown. This will include regular travel to and working at client industrial sites. The typical work pattern is to travel 1-2 weeks and then work remotely from home 1-2 weeks but depends on the client workload. Travel is primarily within North America but will be international at times.
- Actively promote a robust safety culture within Becht and at all client sites. Be a leader on all job tasks to safely execute job duties. Participate in all safety meetings, joint job site visits, job safety analyses (JSA), and similar activities required by Becht and/or our clients.
- Remain self-motivated and productive during the work week regardless of location and direct supervision. Strive to be autonomous and contribute value. Complete work tasks, training, travel, etc as planned and always be working ahead. Actively seek out other opportunities to improve work toolsets, practices, reports, templates, write case studies/blogs for Becht.com, etc.
- Complete all required safety and site-specific training for Becht and all clients in a timely manner. Always complete before due dates. Work with Becht staff who assist with monitoring and scheduling these activities to always stay ahead. Never be stuck at the gate of a client due to an out-of-date training certificate.
- Maintain a positive attitude and be an ambassador of the Becht brand. Be professional and build positive relationships with our clients. Become knowledgeable of Becht’s capabilities and always offer assistance when you hear challenges at our client sites.
- During normal working hours maintain active communication. Be available and responsive to our Becht team regardless of location. This will typically be via cell phone, text, or email.
- Complete IR report generation and analysis. Submit draft reports in a timely manner.
- Perform basic care of all equipment and store properly. Report any issues or required maintenance in a timely manner. Treat Becht property as if it was your own.
- Actively seek opportunities to improve your base skillsets and improve your performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned, these may include supporting data management, new tool/technique research and development and business development activities across the world.
- Have fun and enjoy learning a unique craft applicable across many industrial settings.
Your Knowledge and Expertise
The Expertise We're Looking For:
- Excited to learn about IR Thermography and Fired Equipment design and technology. Is curious to learn and positive about new opportunities. No previous direct experience with this technology or field is required.
- Experience working in industrial settings. Need to be able to work safely in hot, noisy environments and at heights (up to 150’ platforms). Need to be able to carry light loads (IR equipment typically <20 lbs) and climb ladders.
- Capable of handling sensitive camera equipment and optics (static awareness and cleanliness).
Desired Skills (If Any):
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Likes to work outside and travel regularly.
- Is looking for a craft and career to practice for the next +10 years.
- Able to work independently and safely in the field at refining and petrochemical/industrial plants. The position is 100% remote.
- Willing to travel within North America (regularly) and internationally (at times) to support clients onsite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Basic mathematics skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Prior use of qCAD or CAD drawing software
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
