Role Summary
Responsible for leading the technical strategy and development of end-to-end architecture of IoT platforms. Plans and coordinates design, development, and implementation activity with product owners, developers, and engineers to deliver optimal IoT solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Establish an end-to-end Enterprise IoT platform which includes the collection, processing, structure, organization, communication, and storing of product and sensor data to the cloud.
• Drive new and existing IoT product development projects as the lead technical owner of IoT features and overall systems, including embedded systems, cloud platforms, and mobile apps.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities for potential business solutions and value propositions through the use of IoT.
• Define and approve IoT architecture choices with consideration to future products and overall company strategy.
• Architect and design best-in-class security technologies, patterns, and practices across the IoT platforms.
• Consistently evaluate IoT platforms to improve the design of services with consideration to cost, portability, compatibility, and usability factors.
• Provide technical input during the RFP and RFQ process.
• Maintain and develop technology partnerships within the IoT domain
• Translate business requirements into technical requirements and IoT architecture models, with a focus on capturing APIs/interfaces, protocols, data structures, and system partitioning.
• Manage 3rd party integrations through the use of APIs and service-oriented architectures.
• Keep the organization abreast of new technology and trends relative to IoT, Cloud, Big Data, Analytics, and AI. Evaluate new products with key stakeholders to determine potential trade-offs.
• Communicate effectively across a global organization and directly interface with domestic and international manufacturing divisions.
• Train users on implementation, best practices, and usage of the IoT Platform.
• Work with existing and new vendors (OT & IT) to ensure their products are conforming to the standards and requirements of the IoT Platform.
• Develop the standards used in CI/CD pipelines to deploy software in an automotive manufacturing environment which follows best practices and customer requirements (ex: IATF 16949).
Position Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related field of study
• Minimum 5+ years of related experience in IT solution implementation in a highly technical and analytical role
• Minimum 4+ years of experience in application architecture, database architecture, and networking
• Azure or AWS certifications preferred
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in the development of end-to-end IoT applications that are comprised of:
o Implementation and Integration of Factory Floor Equipment and Software (PLC, Robots, Digital Quality Inspections, Other Equipment Controllers, etc)
o Integration of Factory Floor Communication Protocols (ProfiNet, CIP/Ethernet/IP, Modbus (TCP & RTU), OPC-UA, TwinCAT)
o Cloud-based Applications and Services
o Web Applications
o Wired & Wireless Communication Systems
o Embedded Sensors and Devices
o Mobile Apps
Skills and Qualifications
• Experience in developing custom applications on Industrial IoT platforms and interfaces to various Cloud Platforms (Azure, AWS) and ERP, FIS, and MES systems through custom APIs.
• Experience in a Technical Architect role developing large-scale systems based on complex integration solutions and server/cloud-based web applications.
• Experience with programming/scripting, statistical analysis, database, ETL, and programming languages used in predictive analytics.
• Experience in implementing event-based platforms to integrate Factory Floor equipment and software into Front Office and Corporate Systems.
• Expert skills in data visualization and designing industry certifications in Big Data, data intelligence and analytics, data science, and data governance.
• Familiar with pay-per-use business models and able to suggest suitable software architectures.
• Demonstrated understanding of drivers for edge sensors, device provisioning and protocols, and sensors to gateway/cloud connectivity solutions.
• Knowledge of Open Standards technologies and secure software architecture and development methodologies.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly understand customer requirements and translate them into actionable business solutions.
• Accustomed to work in a self-motivated, target-oriented manner with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Preferred:
• Prior experience in a technical role within a services organization.
• Intermediate/advanced knowledge of cloud services, market segments, customer base, and industry verticals.
• Understanding of application, server, network security, and compliance requirements such as GDPR and HIPAA.
• Demonstrated experience leading or developing high quality, enterprise scale software products using a structured system development lifecycle.
• Strong presentation skills across both small and large audiences.
• High level of comfort communicating across internal and external organizations.
Additional Information
Approximately twenty percent (20%) travel may be required.
