Our Global Public Equity Program is currently seeking an Investment Officer II to drive our CalPERS mission and support the Strategy Search and Oversight team. This position is ideal for candidates that are analytical and intellectually curious, but also outgoing and comfortable engaging with investment professionals at all levels.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assess both externally and internally managed active managers/strategies through all aspects of the strategy analysis function.
  • Using various investment technology tools and platforms such as Bloomberg, Aladdin, FactSet, and Axioma to contribute to the research, analysis, and recommendations made to the IM and GPE Senior Leadership Team related to individual strategies and the aggregate active portfolio.
  • Support new strategy solicitations by contributing to the search, selection, and onboarding of all active portfolios.
Interview Dates: We anticipate interviews to be held one month from the final file date.
Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Permanent full-time employees who possess certification as a CFA may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

The SOQ must be typed, titled "Statement of Qualifications", and each statement must be numbered and answered listing all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed. The SOQ must not exceed two pages in length and must not have font smaller than 11 point.
  • Describe your experience analyzing investment managers/strategies. Please specify the analytical tools and risk models utilized and a brief summary of the qualitative considerations.
  • Describe your experience building and presenting investment recommendations.
  • Describe your relevant education, certifications, and/or formal training that will help you be successful in this position.
  • Describe any technical skills you possess that would be beneficial to the role and the team.

    Desirable QualificationsIn addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
    • Possession or working toward a Chartered Financial Analysis designation, MBA, or MS in Finance.
    • Knowledge of investment principles with an emphasis on global equity markets.
    • Experience working with applications utilized for analyzing risk, performance attribution, exposures, and skill - Factset, MSCI BARRA, Bloomberg, eVestment Alliance, etc.
    • Technical skills that can contribute to the automation and data aggregation of the analytics and reporting of the strategy analysis and monitoring processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative, professional relationships with internal and external partners.
    • Make sound decisions and recommendations; work effectively without close supervision.
    • A comfort and appreciation for operating in a team and consensus driven environment is a key aspect underlying success in the CalPERS environment.
    • A high degree of initiative, professionalism, confidentiality, and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
    • Be flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, assignments, and other interruptions which may impact pre-established timelines and courses of action.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
