Job description

The Office of the Kansas Attorney General (OAG) is accepting applications to fill an Investigator position in our Civil Division Licensing & Inspections, Roofing Registration Unit.

This position is NOTa law enforcement position; this position conducts civil investigations only.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Roofing Registration Processing

  • Receives and reviews roofing contractor registration applications and completes registration data entry. Issues registration certificates to contractors who submit a complete and accurate application accompanied by the appropriate supplemental documents.
  • Accepts telephone calls and walk-in visits from roofing contractors regarding application and/or reinstatement issues.
  • Communicates by letter, email and telephone with roofing contractors, insurance producers, government agencies, etc., regarding missing or incorrect application information.
  • Occasionally assists with processing mail.

Roofing Registration Violations

  • Reviews complaints received from consumers to determine scope of investigation. Conducts civil investigations of allegations stated in consumer complaints.
  • Manages a caseload of consumer complaints that may involve violations of the , the , and the
  • Collects and analyzes documents, statements, and evidence related to complaints obtained from consumers and roofing contractors to determine whether violation of the KRRA or the KCPA have occurred.
  • Communicates by letter, email and telephone with consumers and company representatives (businesses, suppliers, local forms of government, etc.).
  • Prepares written reports, correspondence, memorandums and other documents for attorneys to use in determining how cases may be handled.
  • Presents administrative and civil cases to assistant attorneys general for review. Drafts letters, subpoenas, and other documents for review and approval by assistant attorneys general.
  • Participates in outreach activities, such as the Kansas State Fair, Kansas Roofing Association Convention and public presentations to, business associations and local forms of government.

TRAVEL
The primary work location for this position is at 120 SW 10th Street, Topeka, Kansas. The individual appointed to this position is expected to travel to the locations required to competently and diligently discharge the assigned duties. Occasional in-state travel is required. A valid driver’s license is required when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year of experience interacting with clients, customers, or the public in a social service, customer service, or problem resolution setting
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • A valid driver's licensing when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) or more years of civil or criminal investigation experience
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business administration, communications, criminal justice, or related field(s). Professional or technical experience, as deemed by the Attorney General to be sufficient qualification to perform the assigned work, may be substituted for the required college study
  • International Code Council (ICC) Residential Building Inspector and/or ICC Commercial Building Inspector certification(s)
  • Experience working with or reviewing insurance claims for residential and/or commercial claims
  • Experience with code enforcement and permitting within a government entity
  • Experience with an electronic document management/case management system.
