The mission of the Office of Student Protections and Title IX (OSP) and the Equal Opportunity Compliance Office (EOCO) is to promote a District that is free from abuse, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. To fulfill this mission the Office of Student Protections (OSP) and Title IX's / Equal Opportunity Compliance Office (OSP/EOCO) responds to, investigates, resolves, and transforms cases related to both interpersonal and systemic harm.

 The Investigations Report Writer, Part-Time will assist the Student Protections Investigations Team in drafting clear, concise and comprehensive investigative reports for OSP investigations, including sexual misconduct, bias-based harm and general staff misconduct investigations, to ensure alignment with district policy and the district's compliance with the full range of federal, state, and local laws, as well as Title VI and Title IX requirements.

 This part-time/temporary position will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 20 hours per week for an anticipated period of 5 months beginning January 1, 2024 and ending June 7, 2024. Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position. This role will report to the Deputy Chief Title IX Officer.

 The part-time/temporary Investigations Report Writer will be held accountable for the following responsibilities: 


  • Analyze and convert complex raw investigative data and comprehensive information into clear and concise written reports
  • Ability to comprehend the documentation pertaining to an investigation, including investigative interview notes
  • Draft, review and edit written investigative reports for student-to-student sexual misconduct investigations, including Title IX, bias-based harm investigations and staff-to-student general misconduct investigations, in timely manner
  • Assist Student Protections Investigators by identifying witnesses or documents needed to complete investigation
  • Manage the organization, tracking and reporting of cases via the appropriate confidential case management and/or database system
  • Collaborate with and ensure diligent and prompt communication with Student Protections Investigators
  • Communicate information to the Director, Investigations and Deputy Chief Title IX Officer
  • Performs additional ad hoc duties as assigned

 In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Investigations Assistant, Student Protections  must possess the following qualifications: 

 Education Required: 

  • Associate's degree in related field with relevant required experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Psychology, Social Work, Law, etc. preferred  

 Experience Required: 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in writing comprehensive investigative reports in an investigations or compliance setting
  • Experience working with youth and families in crisis preferred

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience conducting investigations and writing investigative reports 
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organization and documentation skills
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies with diplomacy and tact 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Bilingual in Spanish a strong plus 
  • Refined judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Suite, specifically Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint, Word/Docs

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
