Interpreter/Accessibility Specialist
Educational Access Center

The Educational Access Center invites applications for an Interpreter/Accessibility Specialist! The Educational Access Center provides leadership to the Boise State University community and guides achievement of the university's goal to improve educational access and student success for all students. The Educational Access Center empowers students with disabilities to accomplish their educational goals by facilitating access and promoting inclusion.
This is an 11-month position.

60% of Time the Interpreter/Accessibility Specialist must:
  • Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Prepare for classes: review course material; meeting with instructor to explain interpreter's role and responsibilities, coordinating interpreter/student logistics.
  • Communicate frequently with students to ensure understanding of the course interpretation, schedules, and program services
  • Report schedule changes, appropriateness of skill level for interpreting assignments, faculty cooperation, student concerns, course content and student's use of interpreting services to the Deaf Service Coordinator or Director of the Educational Access Center,
  • Perform interpreter skill-building activities to continually improve/enhance current knowledge and skills related to interpreting
  • Assist with creating and organizing production of accessible media
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and privacy Act (FERPA).
35% of Time the Interpreter/Accessibility Specialist must:
  • Assist Deaf Services Coordinator with scheduling and supervising agency/independent contractor interpreters
  • Support Educational Access Center student success efforts focusing on Deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Support the Educational Access Center's outreach efforts by coordinating and delivering transition presentations to Deaf and hard of hearing Idaho high school students
5% of Time the Interpreter/Accessibility Specialist must:
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.
Valid license from the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL).Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Salary and Benefits
