On any given day, you will:
  • Work under the direct supervision of Community Planning staff and will be assigned to various projects.
  • Work on several projects simultaneously while proactively collaborating with other team members.
  • Prepare graphics, drawings, and renderings in support of planning activities to communicate complex concepts to the public, elected officials and other professionals.
  • Assist with preparation of boards, worksheets, and other materials for public/client meetings, workshops, charrettes, and project team meetings.
  • Help design and develop planning studies and compile completed reports.
  • Research and analyze residential and commercial development projects.
  • Understand and apply planning theory, law, principles, and strategies on a wide range of projects for our rural and urban community partners
  • Compile, research, analyze and evaluate data related to social, housing, economic, population, environmental, and land use trends.
  • Prepare reports and presentations associated with the above items.
  • Conduct research, create and modify plans, diagrams, sketches, renderings, maps, drawings and reports as directed by senior staff.
  • Be able to visually communicate project content and write text for related reports, presentations, and other written work deliverables.
  • Attend occasional evening and weekend activities across the region with senior staff.
  • Gain an understanding on how to develop proposals, budgets, and project timelines.

Required Qualifications:
  • Be in pursuit of a community/urban planning degree.
  • Have a reliable means of transportation to travel to office locations and project sites.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer skills

Desired skills and experiences:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of community/urban planning to include topic areas such as brownfield revitalization, urban design, public engagement, community development, entitlements, zoning, and long-range planning.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, other graphics programs, and GIS software is a plus, but not necessarily required.
  • Familiarity with local government procedures and regulations related to development review and analyzing site plan, subdivision plats, and related projects against local code criteria.
  • Self-directed, motivated, collaborative, and professional, with the ability to manage project deliverables, deadlines, and budgets.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and analytical skills.

Our good-faith compensation approach is fair and equitable, and takes into consideration only permissible factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, training, skills, and experience, and geographic location where the work is performed. The salary range for this posting is $16.00-$21.00/hour. The foregoing salary range represents what the company believes, in good faith, it will pay for the posted opportunity. The individual selected for this role will be evaluated with the compensation factors in mind and placed appropriately.
