Project Name: Software Engineering Support Internship
Preferred Degree: Pursuing a bachelor's or a master's degree in applied or computational mathematics or physics, completion of junior year (by Summer 2024) minimum. Additional preference is given to those with an engineering or computer science minor.
Project Description:
This project is focused on supporting modeling software that MxV Rail develops and maintains in support of railway research. Areas of focus may include benchmarking and analytical comparison of results from modeling, automated linear regression analysis, software security implementation, and programming language change for existing software.
Primary Duties:
The intern will assist in code implementation, testing programs, and debugging code, complete work item write-ups, develop test regimes, assist in writing technical product documentation, participate in stand-ups with project team members to facilitate recap completed the work, individually communicate with other MxV Rail technical staff to progress the software development of a project, complete assignments with high quality and on time, learn to utilize software packages used by MxV Rail, promote teamwork and continuous quality improvement, support other developers as needed, ability to mimic user interaction with software, effectively work and communicate the progress of multiple projects with overlapping work windows, perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
- Experience preparing user documentation based on work produced.
- Prior experience presenting and communicating in teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Applied or Computational Mathematics or Physics, completion of junior year (by Summer 2024).
- MxV Rail policy requires all prospective employees to complete a criminal background check (Disclosure for Consumer Reports Consent Form) and a pre-employment substance abuse screening (Applicant Consent for Drug Testing Form) as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with laboratory testing methods, data collection, data analysis techniques and reporting, statistics, modeling, and numerical algorithm development.
- Proficient with mathematical programming using Fortran or MATLAB.
- Experience managing project deliverables within budget and time constraints.

- Bug fixes, testing, and tracking.
- User documentation for any programming changes.
- Improvement of CFIT/ WRCON fitting algorithm.
