In this internship you will be immersed into our boutique design and construction process and understand how an integrated approach to designing, building, and maintaining residential landscapes creates a truly unique and wonderful experience through the realization of custom gardens for our clients.
You will work with our Design Studio Manager to develop a specific internship based on your interest, goals and skills. After learning about the various departments at Glengate and meeting with the Designers and Project Managers that you will be working with, you will receive additional training in the following areas:
On-site field days where you will observe some of our current projects will also be scheduled. In addition, you will shadow several members of our team including Project Manager, Permit Expediter, and Property Care Manager.
Your internship will start with shadowing members of our various departments including:
After completing the shadows, you will be paired with designers on 3-5 jobs and will work with the designer on all aspects pertaining to that job. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Site inventory and analysis
- Regulatory Town hall research
- Creation of basemaps and importing of information into AutoCAD
- Rendering presentation plans by hand and / or in Photoshop
- Building 3D models in Sketchup/Lumion
- Review of permit information and permit submission requirements
- Assembling and delivering sample materials to clients for selection

- Property Care Sales Lead
- Property Care Lead Garden Designer
- Weekly Maintenance Manager
- Floral & Fine Gardening Manager
- Plant Health and Lawn Healthcare (PHC/LHC) Manager
- Irrigation & Night Lighting Manager
- Landscape Construction Manager
- Property Care Manager and/or a Senior Property Care Manager
- Property Care Admin at the main office
After completing the shadows, you will be paired with designers on 3-5 jobs and will work with the designer on all aspects pertaining to that job. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Observing and participating within the various phases of the design process
- Attending client meetings
- Surveying and importing information into AutoCAD
- Opportunities for design input
- Generating Presentation Materials
- Selecting Materials
- Takeoff for estimating
- Reviewing on-site construction progress
- Observing/Participating in bi-weekly design team meetings, Monthly Design Build team meetings, and design review and pre-construction meetings
You will have the opportunity to spend time with other divisions within Glengate depending on your interests and established goals. Potential other departments include:
- Pool Construction and Renovation
- Property Care
- Pool Care
- Fine Floral Gardening
- Outdoor Furniture and Décor
Internship Requirements:
- Studying in a Two or Four year Degree in Landscape Design or related field
- Sample portfolio of Landscape Designs (digital format preferably)
- Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable means of transportation
- Must be self-motivated and team oriented and able to perform independently without direct supervision to complete team goals.
- Excellent communication skills.
