Internship - Kitchen Team Member

Food for the Soul, a ministry of the Society of the Transfiguration, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Kitchen Intern to join our Kitchen Team ministry. This internship provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment, allowing individuals to develop and enhance their skills. The Kitchen Intern will work closely with experienced kitchen staff to assist in various tasks, gaining exposure to different aspects of food rescue and preparation, kitchen operations and delivering delicious, quality meals to the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of ingredients, ensuring they meet quality standards.
• Follow recipes and guidelines provided by our cooks for accurate and consistent results.
• Work alongside cooks to execute cooking techniques and methods.
• Assemble dishes according to established plating standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Ensure proper storage and labeling of ingredients.
• Help with inventory control by monitoring ingredient levels and communicating with the Kitchen Team regarding restocking needs.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff to facilitate smooth workflow and efficient operations.
• Communicate effectively with Team Members and cooks to meet production goals.
• Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a hygienic and safe working environment.
• Adhere to food safety protocols at all times.

Requirements:

• Passion for the cooking and a desire to learn and develop skills in a professional kitchen.
• Strong interest in pursuing a career in the culinary field.
• Ability to manage time effectively and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse Kitchen Team.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to different tasks and responsibilities within and outside the kitchen.
• This is a 10- week internship position. Compensation will be provided as agreed upon.
• Must have reliable transportation. We are not on a bus line.

Physical Requirements:

-Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Bend, kneel, push pull and reach at regular intervals.
-Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
-May be exposed to cleaning and maintenance chemicals/odors.
