The Stratasys Summer Internship Program is designed to give interns a holistic view of what Stratasys has to offer from a multitude of departments. Our 12-week paid program begins in May and goes through mid-August. During the program, interns are embedded in real-time projects, which they contribute to or even lead depending on their experience level. Our campus team helps to educate, train, and grow our interns through monthly activities such as 3D printing training, lunch & learn seminars, and coffee talks with department leaders. We also host off-site team-building activities to promote networking among the group through volunteer events.
The FDM Materials Development Internship is designed to provide a new product design engineering and testing experience within Stratasys. In this exceptional hands-on program, you will learn how a fast-paced Materials Development and qualification team conducts their work to formulate and test thermoplastic formulations for the world's most advanced additive manufacturing applications.

What you will be doing:
- Assisting the development engineers with formulating, testing, and printing test articles from various materials formulations
- Seeing FDM thermoplastics go through all industrial processing steps to get from raw materials to pellets, to filaments, and finally, to printed parts.
- Characterizing materials using world-class thermophysical analysis equipment, such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, ARES, and various destructing and non-destructing mechanical tests
- Printing and evaluation of test articles to support development and requalification projects, including both new formulations, and process modifications or scale-ups.
- Modification and adjustment of software parameters used in printing new formulations, tuning these to suit additional, non-commercial formulations.
- Embrace the dynamics of a professional engineering working environment and the role a Materials Engineer plays in helping the engineering team create and document their projects.
Must have for this role:
- Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline with a focus on materials or chemistry.
- Two years of higher education must be completed - (Entering Junior or Senior year education as of Spring 2024)
- Ability to lift material weighing upwards of 40 lbs.
- Local to Minnesota or able to relocate without assistance to the Eden Prairie, MN area
Nice to have:
- 3D printing experience highly desired
- Preferred Major(s): Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or another related engineering or scientific field such as Biomedical Engineering or Physics
