The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets of event planning and implementation, volunteer management, and community outreach. It will offer experience in the use of current business and development technologies, including the use of a computer and software applications. Our internships offer the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and customer service.  

 

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: Spring (January 16 – May 3)
  • Hybrid: work from home and in-person
  • Based in Portland, Oregon.

Internship Outcomes:

Responsibilities include assisting with the development and implementation of fundraising activities and logistics support for the Heart Ball, Go Red for Women, and Heart Walk for the Oregon & SW Washington market.

  • Work with Event Coordinators, Development Directors, and Executive Directors to support event planning and logistics.
  • Assistance with pre-event planning, day of execution, and event wrap-up projects related to any of the events listed above.
  • Email and call event related external 3rd party vendors.
  • Work within event support systems such as Greater Giving and Event.Gives.
  • Develop collateral for events including save the dates, invitations, and programs.
  • Help with volunteer recruitment and management.
  • Public Relations responsibilities such as: assisting with event planning, communicating with external 3rd party vendors, and creating various strategic social media content.

 


Desired Qualifications

  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong leadership experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva.
  • 20hrs/week availability, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5:00pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.  For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
