POSITION SUMMARY
| This is a critical position in Library service, responsible for assisting the study and research of faculty, staff, and students by obtaining resources not available onsite from other institutions or commercial document suppliers.

| 1. Strong service-orientation; ability to communicate with, and support people on, all levels from students (undergraduate and graduate) to faculty to administrators.

3. Proficiency in using standard software (e.g., Microsoft Office); especially comfortable with learning new software; somewhat tech-savvy.

Responsibilities:
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Verify and order books, articles, and media resources for our patrons using a variety of databases.
- Process incoming requests from institutions worldwide for materials held by our library and pack them for physical shipment or scan them for electronic delivery.
- Use various systems, including ILLiad, 2 UPS systems, Odyssey, OCLC WorldShare, Alma, and other specialized software.
- Train and supervise student workers in Interlibrary Loan borrowing and lending procedures.
- Monitor copyright compliance for all journal articles and book excerpts requested by our patrons.
- Maintain Interlibrary Loan statistics on a daily basis and, using Excel spreadsheets to extract various statistics, create various monthly and annual reports.
- Prepare detailed annual statistical reports of all Interlibrary Loan transactions.
- Investigate technological issues and problems, in collaboration with vendors and campus IT staff.
- Keep up to date on developments in Interlibrary Loan in academic libraries, e.g., reading about and/or attending workshops, seminars, and conferences on Interlibrary Loan.
- Prepare claims for lost items.
- Exhibit consistent and reliable attendance.
SECONDARY DUTIES
- Train and supervise ILL/Technical Processing Assistant in duties #1 and #2 above as backup.
- Create (or collaborate with campus partners to install) library displays.
- Serve as a member of Murray Library’s Event, Display, and Marketing Committee.
- Work with the Public Services Librarian to manage Mosaic, the institutional repository of Messiah’s scholarship.
- Serve as back-up supervisor for Circulation Department, library light programing, and signage creation/lamination.
- Pack and ship library materials to Messiah’s online students.
- Oversee mail delivery and retrieval through Campus Store.
- In conjunction with the Public Services Librarian, maintain the building’s appearance in June and July, including seeing that study surfaces are cleared regularly; attending to the disposition of lost, abandoned, or unattended items; and ensuring that patron-facing areas are orderly and clean.
