Department CAPITAL PLANNING (UA-UART-IUBLA) Department Information Capital Planning & Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that IU campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable while supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. A unity within CPF, Interior Design believes in the power of creating purposeful spaces to serve the needs of everyone in the university community. The Interior Design unit creates many types of spaces across the university from residential and hospitality environments to work settings and conference or lounge spaces.

Interior Design staff aim to provide creative, cost-effective, and technical solutions that are simultaneously functional and attractive. Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Contributes to process improvement and administrative discussions.

Provides guidance and mentors Designers and Design Assistant. Solicits proposals from, develop plans with, reviews contract submittal documents for, and manages exterior design consultants on IU projects. Manages numerous projects daily with high level of accountability.

Serves as project manager or team member on facilities projects as assigned (IUB and designated Regional Campuses). General Responsibilities Plans and designs basic and complex interior spaces including design conception, plan drawing, establishing specifications, analyzing available space, determining office equipment and layout, and assessing traffic flow. Performs all of the above within budget limits, adhering to pertinent regulations and building codes.

Develops and presents proposals, plans and specifications, cost estimates, and budget recommendations. Oversees project implementation, including engaging Engineering, Trades, & Facility Operations staff and/or independent contractors as needed, and orders necessary equipment and supplies. Reviews and monitors projects in progress to ensure budget control, timely completion, and the compliance of contractors with established standards; assists contractors and craftspeople in resolving problems during installation; and develops and proposes solutions and prepares revised design alterations of modifications as appropriate.

Maintains contracts with vendors, manufacturing representatives, contractors, and craftspeople to evaluate projects and ensure awareness of trends in the design field. Maintains design library and resources files. May provide guidance to Interior Design Assistants and lower-level Interior Designers.

May make procedural and process recommendations to supervisor for improved operational efficiency. Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience.

EDUCATION Required Bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture, or related field WORK EXPERIENCE Required 2 years in interior design, architecture, or related field LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES Required Pass NCIDQ National Council for Interior Design Qualification upon date of hire Preferred LEED AP upon date of hire 5 years of Interior Design experience 3 years of Interior Design experience SKILLS Required Proficient communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Highly thorough and dependable Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure Proficiency with AutoCAD systems; REVIT proficiency is a plus Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Knowledge of common business furniture systems Working Conditions / Demands This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment.

This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception.
