  • Responsibilities

    Warbird Consulting Partners actively seeks experienced candidates for the role of Interim Finance Director for a hospital in the Midwest. Reporting to the CFO, the Interim Finance Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling activities of Finance/Accounting, Financial Planning, and Business Analytics as well as other duties as assigned. Ensure that all policies and procedures formulated and recommended by subordinate professional managers are aligned with the short- and long-term goals and objectives of the System. Supports the Chief Financial Officer in accomplishing System financial objectives and maintaining timely and compliant financial reporting, both internally and externally. In addition, this position will provide leadership, direction, and administrative oversight of System activities associated with accounting (general ledger, accounts payable, cost reimbursement, and tax), and external financial reporting.

    Duration: 6 months

    ESSENTIAL TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Formulate the overall financial policies and objectives for the System in consultation with the CFO and in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and sound financial management practices.
    • Direct the recording and controlling of the System’s accounting transactions, including the audit of such functions. Ensure that all accounting systems safeguard the assets of the System, provide viable management information, and are in accordance with generally accepted accounting and audit principles.
    • Direct the Financial Planning efforts of the System including forecasts, Decision Support, pro-formas, and long-term financial plans. Direct the preparation of System-wide budget plans and ensure that an acceptable annual budget is developed and approved.
    • Direct the Net Revenue function including valuation of Accounts Receivable and Third-Party Reimbursement. Direct the maintenance of data and reporting of costs to third-party payors for an effective reimbursement of incurred costs in providing patient care services.
    • Review the reports and analyses prepared and presented by management personnel from regulatory agencies, independent auditors, and others. Provide information and participate in the negotiation of report summaries where applicable.
    • Select, train, direct, evaluate, and, when necessary, discipline or recommend the discharge of subordinate professional managers. Review their employee relations decisions and advise them as necessary.
    • Serve as a resource person or consultant to other senior management personnel on specific finance-related problems.
    • Chair Capital Allocation Committee. Review and make recommendations regarding key Hospital policies/developments/activities.
    • Ensure Hospital compliance with all regulations governing financial activities by continually monitoring the operations of the Hospital and regulatory bodies and recommending changes when required.
    • Analyze the results attained by the Finance area relative to established objectives and ensure appropriate steps are taken to correct unsatisfactory conditions.
    • Maintain liaison with a wide variety of internal and external sources to gather and exchange information and make recommendations regarding financial activities.
    • Provide for maintenance of necessary records as to the quantity, quality, and timeliness of work performed in assigned departments or committees. Periodically review and evaluate their contributions and performance and keep the CFO informed of their progress and problems, and any factors affecting assigned responsibilities. Compile reports and special studies as arranged or specially requested.
    • Monitor key metrics including trends, spending patterns, and resource utilization to identify improvement opportunities.
    • Oversee all accounting and treasury functions for the System and all related and affiliated entities. Evaluates policies, procedures, reports, and performance. Monitors systems, processes, and procedures to support accurate accounting and reporting of operations under GAAP, including controls to preserve and protect assets. Assures the preparation and release of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, cost reports, tax returns, and other mandatory filings, as applicable.
    • Monitor all treasury functions including investments, debt structure, and interest rate risk management.
    • Maintains relationships with external partners including auditors, advisors, underwriters, and bankers.
    • Identifies, recommends, and implements approved strategies for revenue enhancement and cost reduction.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Bachelor’s level of knowledge in accounting, finance, business administration, or related areas. CPA and/or Master's degree preferred.
    • Five (5) to ten (10) years of progressively more responsible experience in the various aspects of financial management including the development of functions, such as budgeting, financial planning, financial reporting, and decision support.
    • A high degree of professional accounting and finance knowledge to provide the technical direction and resource background to ensure the development and maintenance of sound and effective accounting and finance systems within the System.
    • A high level of analytical ability is required to plan, direct, and control the financial activities of the System.
    • The interpersonal skills to interact effectively in delicate, sensitive, and/or complex situations and to make effective presentations before groups, including regulatory bodies.
