Department Summary
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) promotes excellence in research at the University of Oregon. The UO has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research that continues through the production of new knowledge and innovative solutions to society's grand challenges.
The Genomics and Cell Characterization Core Facility (GC3F) supports scientific research by making a broad array of high-end specialized instrumentation accessible to UO researchers for genomics, flow cytometry, and imaging. The facility offers training on user-operated instruments within the core and provides consultation on experimental design and data interpretation. The core also offers in-house sequencing sample prep services.
The MAP Molecular Lab is a CLIA-certified lab providing high-throughput clinical diagnostic testing services for academic, community, and state partners. It provides an array of advanced instruments to meet the needs of researchers and private entities across multiple testing platforms, including providing timely results needed by a variety of stakeholders.

Position Summary
The Interim Assistant Director of Genomicsand Molecular Facilities supports the Senior Director in day-to-day logistical operations of the GC3F and MAP Molecular lab facilities. They are technically and operationally proficient in research and clinical lab settings. This position supervises multiple Research personnel to facilitate efficient, well-documented workflows. This position works closely with the CLIA lab medical director to ensure all regulatory requirements, including CLIA lab reporting requirements, are followed. The Assistant Director works closely with the MAP Executive Director and other members of the MAP team to meet the testing needs of the institution and state and community users. The Assistant Director keeps abreast of the most advanced technologies available in genomics, flow cytometry, and biological imaging and supports strategic, administrative, and operational standard operating procedure development and refinement to make these tools available to UO investigators as technology evolves.

Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or equivalent
Two years of supervisory experience
Extensive technical experience with next-gen DNA sequencing and other genomic technologies (lab practice and data analysis)
Two years of research facility management experience at a major academic institution

Professional Competencies
Technical proficiency in molecular and genomic techniques
Exceptionally strong organizational skills
Exceptionally strong customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a CLIA lab
Experience working in a high-throughput clinical lab setting
Experience managing a complex service center budget
Competence in one or more scripting language (Perl, Python, etc.) and R for data analysis
Expertise in advanced microscopy techniques
Expertise in flow cytometry
