Job Description
- Lead the negotiation of the Interconnection Agreements with transmission provider.
- Work with the project manager to coordinate the construction of the interconnection.
- Ability to operate at the strategic level and at the tactical level in driving the negotiations with the transmission provider.
- Guarantee an appropriate transition to the Engineering phase, including Interconnection Agreement milestones.
- Risk management for interconnection process.
Engineering and Construction Responsibilities include:
- Act as a primary point of contact for transmission service providers, independent system operators and all interconnection activities throughout the engineering and construction process
- Review utility studies (feasibility, impact, and facility) and utility expansion plans to identify potential opportunities.
- Provide assistance during project design and construction for interconnection related issues.
- Conduct transmission/interconnection due diligence to adequately estimate timing and cost impacts.
- Provide guidance to the development, engineering, M&A / Finance, Construction, and Operations and Maintenance teams regarding new and existing project opportunities
- Interface with and manage transmission and interconnection related third-party engineers and other consultants as necessary.
- Coordinate with engineering to ensure all studies and simulations meet the requirements for interconnection.
- Ensure engineering of new projects is in compliance with all requirements from the independent system operator, transmission provider and/or local utility.
- Establish with the independent system operator, transmission provider and/or local utility the required tests and documentation that are required prior to interconnect as well as any staged process of interconnection.
- Ensure that all required tests and documentation have been completed at the facility in order to ensure compliance with all requirements from the independent system operator, transmission service provider and/or utility, resulting in a full acceptance of the Power Plant on time (scheduled COD) by all related parties in such a way that no forecasted generation income is lost.
- Coordinate and participate in all required meetings with the independent system operator, transmission service provider and /or local utility to ensure full compliance at the facility.
- Interpret market rules as they apply to the interconnection study, construction and operation of generation projects.
- Participate in various industry groups dealing with interconnection and market issues.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in power systems engineering in a consulting or utility environment
- Minimum of 3 years transmission interconnection experience
- Advanced understanding of utility interconnection studies
- Experience with PSS/E, PSCAD and ASPEN software
- Able to work in an indoor or outdoor environment.
