Summary:
Rush University Medical Center presents an exciting opportunity for an Intake Clinician in the Road Home Program. The Road Home Program: Center for Veterans and their Families (RHP) is dedicated to assisting and supporting current service members (active duty, reserve, and National Guard), veterans, and their families with no-cost mental health. The RHP specializes in treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) utilizing a 2-week intensive outpatient therapy program (IOP). RHP also collaborates with existing veteran and service member organizations. The therapist/counselor will work to assess and treat veterans and their family members in a multidisciplinary outpatient practice setting. Responsibilities:
  • Interviews, assesses, and evaluates clients and families who present themselves for care; provides professional outpatient counseling and treatment with the goal of maximizing personal/family stability.
  • Prepares intake summaries, treatment plans, and case summaries while maintain ongoing confidential records.
  • Charts members' treatment and progress in accordance with state and other regulations in keeping with accepted community standards.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates treatment approaches for clients and affected family members, including individual, family, group, or intensive therapeutic modalities.
  • Confers and consults with interdisciplinary staff regarding clients' progress and treatment; this may include conferring with attending physicians regarding hospitalized clients and recommendations for treatment plans.
  • Utilizes resources within the community that support service members and veterans to meet the needs of the client's treatment goals (those community resources will offer options for referrals to external resources for the client and/or family members).
  • Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of programs within the psychiatry department at Rush.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Job Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or applied behavioral science required.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Social Worker in the state of Illinois (LPC) (LSW). Those eligible to sit for LSW/LPC may apply; however the candidate must attain the LSW/LPC prior to hire.
  • Strong active listening, critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Behave ethically and professionally, demonstrate excellent communication skills and be capable of working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to collaborate well with others, including social services and government agencies social service and government agencies.
  • This position requires emotional resilience and stability in order to deal effectively with crises.
  • Proficiency with MS Office required.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
  • At least two years of post-license experience as a member of a psychiatric treatment team in an outpatient setting under licensed supervision is preferred.
  • Experience with evidence-based therapies.
  • Previous work with service members, veterans, and their families strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (Epic) is preferred.
