Job description

The Department of Mental Health's Brockton Multi Service Center (BMSC) is seeking an experienced, licensed clinician for our Intake Department. The identified candidate will be a part of the BMSC Intake team, responsible for engaging and assessing individuals in a variety of settings who have been deemed clinically eligible for DMH services. The Intake Clinician will complete needs & means assessments, psycho-diagnostic evaluations of individuals presenting for services, referrals to internal and external entities as needed, develop initial treatment plans, coordinate the preparation of client records, and present cases to BMSC leadership. 


Please Note
: This position is 40 hours per week on the day shift 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., days off: Saturday and Sunday.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities (these are not all inclusive):

  • Performs psycho-diagnostic evaluations of current or prospective clients by conducting intake interviews, investigating clients' histories through contact with schools, courts, community groups, families, other agencies and providers, etc., and determining the need for and type of services the client should receive. 
  • Participates in the development of the initial treatment plan for clients that is based on the clinical assessment completed during the intake process and presents those findings at the weekly disposition meeting.
  • Aid in the disposition of clients by making referrals within the agency that are based on the clinical evaluation. 
  • Provide referral services to individuals who are not authorized for DMH services.
  • Coordinates the assembly of the client record for all new clients and tracks the necessary documentation for opening a new record.
  • Ensures intake documentation is completed within designated timeframes and in accordance with established BMSC Protocols & ROPs.
  • Complete the Sec 3 process on all assigned applications by conducting face to face interviews, collaborating with hospital providers, maintaining related databases and updating Intake Director & Clinical Director.
  • Attends department meetings as needed/required for position, including weekly service authorization review, staff meetings, individual supervision, group supervision, etc.
  • Serves on a multidisciplinary team by attending regularly scheduled meetings; by coming prepared to present psychosocial histories, mental status, diagnosis, treatment provided, and the treatment planned for assigned cases; by participating in discussion of other cases so as to ensure that consumers receive optimal care.
  • Assesses and responds to crisis and emergency situations by intervening immediately with appropriate clinical treatment or referral.
  • If assigned client is on waitlist for services, provide triage support as needed.
  • Ensures that all billing documents and supporting documentation are completed within programs' designated time frames.
  • Serves on committees and becomes involved in task force assignments to help share and improve service delivery at BMSC.
  • Provide community outreach and education regarding DMH eligibility process as well as to DMH staff.
  • Participate in data gathering to track trends in service request and assist with waitlist management if appropriate.
  • Attends all mandatory trainings as scheduled.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to age-related and cultural needs of the clients served.
  • Employee is professional, courteous, and respectful in dealing with clients, families, co-workers and other service providers.
  • Demonstrates compliance with the respective LPHA's code of ethics and discipline requirements necessary for license currency.
  • Engages in supervision processes (provided by an LICSW) as well as team/staff meetings as scheduled/needed. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with people with chronic mental illness.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • Preference for candidates who possess current and valid licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC) in the state of Massachusetts.

Applicants must have (A) at least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, case management or clinical/therapeutic experience (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

 

Based on assignment, travel may be required. Incumbents who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.

  Substitutions:  

I. A Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required (A) experience.

 

Based on assignment as Qualified Intellectual Disabled Professionals, within the Department of Developmental Services, a Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, education of the physically or emotionally handicapped, education of the multiple handicapped, education of the learning disabled, human services, rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, nursing, recreation therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, physical education or other a related field is required.

 

Based on assignment as a Mental Health Case Manager or Forensic Transition Team Coordinator, within the Department of Mental Health, a Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, education of the physically or emotionally handicapped, education of the multiple handicapped, education of the learning disabled, human services, rehabilitation counseling, education or other a related field is required.
