Insurance & Referral Specialist
Job Description
The Insurance & Referral Specialist is responsible for verification of insurance coverage and updating the patients’ insurance portfolio in the electronic record keeping system. Some duties for this position include:
- Utilizes Insurance Verification websites to check for current insurance coverage for patients and update in the EHR as needed.
- Work in collaboration with other members of the health care team in order to ensure patients receive timely care and clean billing.
- Obtain proper prior authorization when needed.
- Verify eligibility to include identifying primary and secondary insurance, obtained claim numbers as necessary.
- Provide updated information to other staff in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with front end regarding scheduling errors.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
- Review patient deductibles and/or copays and enter into the billing system notify front desk of the weekly deductibles to be collected for each pt.
- Extension of the front desk and surgery scheduler - coverage for call-ins, vacations, sick days.
- Manage referrals including prior authorizations, medical records, and other communication. In addition, this role ensures that diagnostic is scheduled and completed.
- Check future appts. to make sure documentation, prior authorizations, records, x-rays are here – follow up with pt. as needed.
- Responsible for fax inbox and mail.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required
- 1-2+ years of medical office experience
- Exceptionally quick learner with a desire to learn and grow
- Organized and analytical with high attention to detail
- Proficient technology, computer, and typing skills
- Strong time-management and prioritization skills
- Goes the extra mile to ensure client satisfaction and team success
- Friendly and professional communication skills (phone, email, interpersonal)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
- Insurance verification: 1 year (Preferred)
- Medical billing: 1 year (Preferred)
