Job description

Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detailed-oriented Insurance Risk Manager to join our home office operations team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing internal company-wide insurance matters, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and providing support in other various operating aspects of the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assess various insurance policies, including property, builders’ risk, general liability, umbrella, and pollution liability.
  • Ensure adherence to policy terms and conditions to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with insurance brokers to negotiate and secure optimal coverage for the company.
  • Utilize the expertise of insurance brokers' teams to ascertain appropriate coverage.
  • Collaborate with construction and property management teams to ensure subcontractor/tenant compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Review and validate insurance certificates to confirm adequate coverage and proper listing of insured parties.
  • Maintain an organized system for tracking subcontractors/tenants' insurance documentation.
  • Conduct regular in-house audits to verify compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Assist in managing insurance claims, including documentation, communication with insurers, and tracking claim progress.
  • Conduct investigations into potential claims, gathering relevant information for broker claim specialists.
  • Review leasing contracts, bank contracts, and development agreements for insurance related coverage and clauses.
  • Collaborate with brokers to draft and review insurance provisions in contracts, ensuring alignment with company policies.
  • Communicate with internal departments to gather information relevant to insurance matters.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records of insurance policies, claims, and schedules.
  • Generate reports as required for management and legal purposes.
  • Undertake other assigned responsibilities, as necessary.

  • Knowledge of insurance policies, regulations, and industry standards a plus.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience with exposure in property and casualty insurance and risk management, preferably in the real estate and/or construction industries.
  • Paralegal Certification (CP) a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal and/or insurance brokerage firm, real estate industry
  • Proficiency of property and casualty insurance contract law and policy contracts.
  • Familiarity with joint venture agreements, loan documents, leases, surveys, appraisals, and property management agreements.

Language Skills
Ability to read, comprehend simple and complex instructions, professional correspondence, and memos. Ability to write professional-level correspondence. Ability to effectively present information on a one-on-one basis to co-workers and other employees.

Mathematical Skills
Basic math skills - ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply knowledgeable understanding to conduct detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to manage healthy conflict and communicate effectively in a clear and professional manner.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Move weight up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
