Position Overview: This position will be responsible for all insurance follow up from various third party payors. Insurance Specialist will assist the team in resolving patient accounts in order to get claims paid properly and quickly by working with the insurance company, thus reducing the outstanding accounts receivable for Cayuga Health System. Job Duties -Daily follow up on unpaid insurance accounts, including but not limited to, rejected/incorrect billings, unpaid/improperly paid claims and denied claims

  • -Works all assigned accounts at least once every 15 to 30 days, depending on the balance and/or supervisor directive by contacting the third party payors via website, telephone or mail for claim/payment status from assigned ATB
  • -Researches, identifies and rectifies any special circumstances affecting the resolution of the account
  • -Ability to identify trends within claim denials to quickly resolve multiple claim issues
  • -Update patient accounts in system with any action taken, additional information attained and next steps to claim resolution with clear and concise documentation
  • -Adheres to all established company policy and procedures
  • -Meets established quality and productivity goals set by management
  • -Remain current on all Federal and State regulations and statutes that govern or influence insurance collections of accounts receivable
  • -Maintains confidentiality and adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations Other duties as assigned Skills/Experience -2-4 years experience in a medical environment with emphasis on insurance follow up and/or billing for third party payor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Medicare and DDE experience a plus -State of New York Medicaid experience a plus -Clear understanding of UB92 and HCFA 1500 billing form guidelines, as well as any other billing forms that may be needed for claim resolution -Knowledge of ICD-10, HCPCS and CPT codes -Well versed in medical terminology -Ability to take and follow directives -Ability to learn new patient accounting software, EMR and any other necessary tools for insurance account resolution -Ability to self-manage and self-motivate working in a remote environment, free from distraction
