Job Description Summary

Responsible for the management and coordination of associates responsible for the production and testing of instrument products. Works with associates, planners, and engineers to ensure products move through the production line in a smooth and problem free manner. Ensures data collection is gathered per management’s requirements and is involved in the analysis of this data. Will be responsible for helping to lead teams for resolution/correction of process issues. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Acts as advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and resolve technical problems. Develops and administers work schedules and provides management with updates on production and shortage status. Performs other tasks assigned by management as required.

Principal Accountabilities:

Provides supervision to non-exempt production personnel with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and employees. Coordinates the activities of assembly and test personnel:

  • Assigning daily work assignments.

  • Assuring build schedules are communicated, tracked, and met.

  • Tracking & trending cycle times.

  • Tracking defects by product.

  • Administering training and tracking employee training records to ensure associates have adequate skills to perform their assigned tasks.

  • Ensure quality systems and procedures are followed.

  • Coordinate resolution of technical issues.

Works closely with manufacturing engineering to provide feedback and ensure:

All procedures are up to date and employees are trained accordingly.

  • Associates have the tools, fixtures, and workstations needed to get the job done.

  • Technical issues are assessed and resolved. Ensures there is a closed loop corrective action in place to ensure closure.

  • Makes recommendations for corrective action required to meet/exceed manufacturing and quality specifications.

  • Support implementation and verification efforts for new products.

  • Administers and monitors budget.

  • Ensures adequate resources are provided and are utilized in most efficient and cost effective manner to meet operational objectives.

  • Administers company policies and procedures and performs human resource management responsibilities such as hiring, job assignments, disciplinary actions, transfers, promotions, salary actions, and processes performance reviews on time. Ensures effective use of material, standards, processes, equipment, and personnel in producing quality products at a reasonable cost, following Good manufacturing Process (GMP's). Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing and 6 Sigma. Reviews manufacturing/testing SOP's. OMS’s, Quality defects and specifications, and ensures adequate training of staff. Responsible for ensuring Training Records are kept up to date and are in compliance with relevant SOP’s.

Other:

  • Keeps abreast of the basic compliance requirements for FDA and ISO in their area of expertise and complies with those requirements.

  • Participates as required in training on regulatory issues affecting their work. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management.

  • Follows Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures.

  • Takes ownership for safety in immediate work area.

  • Participates in EH&S programs.

  • Notifies management of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.

  • May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.

  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required.

Education and Qualifications:

  • BS or BA degree and/or minimum of 3 years’ experience in supervision/management.

  • Five years’ experience in a high technology manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Two years experience in a manufacturing environment (Preferably medical device manufacturing).

  • Demonstrated ability to use process and quality control statistical methods to identify and correct or improve production processes.

  • Effective planning and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of GMP

  • Effective interpersonal skills, English written and oral communication skills, goal setting skills, analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective presentation and meeting facilitation skills.

  • Effective leadership and coaching skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and to motivate exempt and non-exempt associates.

  • Inventory management and control skills. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and SAP experience a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize Microsoft Excel & Word.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills or Abilities (KSA's):

  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), communication skills, interpersonal skills, time management skills, quality systems knowledge, coaching skills, managing change, able to work with limited direction and continuous improvement skills.

  • SAP proficiency preferred.
