General Statement of Duties:
The UBMS Summer Instructor is responsible for teaching two sections of a non-credit course to high school students attending the UBMS Summer Academy. Instructors provide rigorous, project based, college preparatory curriculum to students during a two-week day program at Mount Wachusett Community College and a four-week, residential academy hosted at Fitchburg State University.
The Summer Academy 2024 will run from June 24 - August 2, 2024 (in person, at MWCC and Fitchburg State University), with onboarding occurring the week of June 18-21, 2024 (online if needed).
Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned course(s) which may include: MCAS Math, MCAS English, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Computer Science, Foreign Language (Spanish/Latin/ASL), English/Language Arts or LAB Sciences (Biology, chemistry, and physics).
- Develop and implement rigorous lessons and learning opportunities for students.
- Evaluate student learning through the use of formal and informal assessment strategies.
- Provide students with regular feedback on assignments.
- Communicate student concerns with project director and college access advisor.
- Submit required grade reports in week 3 and week 6 of the Summer Academy.
- Attend onboarding training (virtually or in person).
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in the content area;
- Demonstrated ability to reach and motivate low-level learners;
- Evidence of commitment to classroom teaching/learning, and a demonstrated ability to incorporate research methodology and technology in the classroom;
- Willingness to advise students to help them meet their goals.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in content area, education, or teaching ;
- Experience with project-based learning;
- Massachusetts Teaching Certification in Content Area (8-12).

Additional Information:
Salary: $25.00-$40.00 per hour varies per position with work experience, certifications and grant limitations.

Hours per Week:
For the four-week residential stay the Math and Science Lab instructors can expect to teach Monday-Thursday from 8 am ? 12 pm. ELA, Computer Science, and Foreign Language instructors can expect to teach Monday-Thursday from 1:00 PM ? 3:30 PM. Once a week, all instructors will meet from 12:15-12:45 PM with the project director to discuss student progress and curriculum. Instructors will also be paid for one hour of prep each day. Most Friday's will be field trip days and no instruction will be done on those days. For the first two weeks at MWCC all instruction will be done between 8-noon. Students will be volunteering in the afternoons.
No instruction will take place on July 4. Instructors will have a paid prep day on July 4th.
