Position Description

This position will teach and coordinate Cosmetology Continuing Education classes at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW) to offenders in the Cosmetology program. This position is a Monday through Friday 8am-5pm teaching position with 5 hours of planning time within the 40-hr. work week.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

  • Prepare and submit a course of study including program objectives, student performance objectives.
  • Accurately and punctually submit to the Director of Cosmetology all forms and information needed for attendance and grade reporting.
  • Responsible for supervising and overseeing the operation of all Cosmetology classes at NCCIW.
  • Responsible for keeping the Director of Cosmetology informed of all business related to Cosmetology at NCCIW.

Responsible for all paperwork and audits relating to the Cosmetology Program at NCCIW and maintaining compliance with NCSBCA, WTCC, and NCCIW.

Responsible for supervising part-time staff, faculty, and salon when the salon is open for business.

Handling the operation of the Cosmetology Program at NCCIW and any customer complaints received.

Assist the Director in handling any student-related issues within the Cosmetology Program.

Stay current with the latest hair trends, attend hair training workshops and conferences.

Check and maintain inventory of training supplies for Cosmetology at NCCIW and inventory.

Secure equipment, supplies, and teaching facilities.

Assist Director in creating class schedules for the Cosmetology Program at NCCIW.

Notify Director of any class changes that will require contract amendments for classes related to the Natural Hair Program at BEC and the Cosmetology Program at NCCIW and Instructor’s contracts.

Attend staff meetings and other meetings requested by the Director of Cosmetology

Evaluate textbooks and materials related to the Cosmetology Program at NCCIW.

Maintain a program of safety.

Participate in appropriate professional development activities.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to troubleshoot difficult projects
Must have strong leadership skills
Must demonstrate good judgment and decision making skills
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills
Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others
Must be able to stand, walk, bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, move, and lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds to waist height
Requirements:
Must possess a valid North Carolina Cosmetology License and possess or qualify for North Carolina Designated Subject Vocational Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in cosmetology.
Associate’s Degree
Two years’ supervisory or leadership experience
Two years’ teaching experience
Three years’ licensed stylist experience
Valid Driver's license and approval required by the College’s liability insurance carrier
Ability to travel between campuses and locally on short notice.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
