General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and Dean of Welding, the Instructor is responsible for developing and implementing courses in the Welding Technology program. Courses may take place in classroom, laboratory, online, and hybrid (online & face-to-face) formats. Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to, various aspects of Welding Technology, including O/A and GMAW Welding and GMAW and SMAW Industrial. This is a full-time regular position.

Essential Functions
The instructor is responsible for writing course objectives, implementing appropriate teaching strategies, advising students, monitoring and evaluating student progress, and keeping accurate and timely student records. Teaching assignments for this position include but are not limited to, various aspects of Welding Technology.
  1. Provide instruction and develop courses in assigned subject areas.
  2. Practice and encourage safety.
  3. Provide instruction to a diverse student population according to the objectives of each course in the Welding Technology program.
  4. This instructor will utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom/laboratory that include but are not limited to, lectures, small groups, indoor and outdoor demonstrations, and laboratory activities.
  5. Prepare and administer student evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress in a timely manner.
  6. Remain current in events and developments related to the subject area. Increase and improve personal teaching and subject knowledge through supplemental sources such as in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and personal self-study.
  7. Participate in division and college meetings and committees.
  8. Participate in program Workforce Leadership Team (WLT) meetings.
  9. Maintain security of College vehicles, equipment, facilities, and materials.
  10. Serve as an Academic Advisor for students. Tasks included in this area are: advise students on their academic progress, courses needed for graduation, and division/college policies and procedures; and generally serve as the first line of communication between students and the college staff.
  11. Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies on approved college curriculum forms. In addition, the instructor will develop, revise, and maintain classroom/laboratory policies, grading structures, and strategies. This instructor will review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks for course use.
  12. Function as a Member of the Welding Technology program, Welding Division, Instructional Division, and SCC teams.
  13. Interact with colleagues, students, staff, supervisors, and the public in a manner that will project a positive image of the program and the College and which promotes/facilitates instructional services such as recruitment, placement, and orientation as assigned. This includes support of SCC Policies, Goals, and Strategic Plans.
  14. Maintain and upgrade the Welding Technology classroom, laboratory, instructional facilities, and equipment. Responsible for verifying maintenance of facilities and equipment to ensure that it is kept in safe and proper working order for student use.
  15. Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors): Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction or his/her designee.

Marginal Functions
  1. Operate and utilize as part of the teaching process appropriate audio-visual equipment, computers, and learning management system(s) including but not limited to PowerPoint, Microsoft Office products, Canvas, etc.
  2. Provide information and data that will assist in the preparation of budgets, course schedules, equipment condition reports, MAP Goals, assessment reports, and other required reports.
  3. Serve as a substitute instructor within the Welding Division when needed as assigned by the Associate Dean or Dean.
  4. Serve as a technical advisor from the Welding Technology program to assist other programs at the College.
  5. Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned.
  6. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  7. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  8. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Possess current knowledge and work experience in Welding. This will include one or more of the following welding processes: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW, and Oxy-Fuel and Plasma Arc welding processes. Also included are metallurgy, blueprint reading, quality control, nondestructive testing inspection methods and equipment (UT, RT, PT, MT, and ET), manufacturing and fabrication processes, working knowledge of SPC, and welding safety.
  2. Possess ability and experience in the operation and maintenance of metal fabrication equipment (shear, press brake, iron-worker) and fabrication processes. Also included are portable welders, forklifts, hydraulic cranes, and other construction equipment, and be able to instruct others to operate equipment correctly and safely.
  3. Possess current knowledge of and understand welding codes (AWS, ASME, and API) and procedures, and nondestructive codes and procedures.
  4. Be able to demonstrate all types of welding processes in various welding fabrication environmental situations (inside, outside, off-campus job sites, temperature extremes, etc.).
  5. Ability to apply and demonstrate effective communication skills.
  6. Ability to develop and incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and techniques in the classroom/laboratory.
  7. Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods for classroom/laboratory use.
  8. Possess a working knowledge of Hazard Communication Standard/Hazard and Chemical Right to Know laws and regulations.
  9. Be able to maintain a classroom/lab environment that is conducive to learning including the ability to maintain proper classroom order.
  10. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Associate's degree in Welding Technology from an accredited institution.
  2. Two (2) years of recent welding experience related to the area of assigned instruction in the Welding Technology Program.
  3. Possess or obtain CWI Certification within three (3) years of employment date in order to continue employment.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Previous teaching experience
  2. Possess CWI or CWE endorsement.
  3. AWS, ASME, and/or API welding certification.
  4. Knowledge of blueprint reading, welder qualification/certification, and fabrication techniques.

Salary
$52,900
