The Opportunity
The Themed Experience programs at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure earning, Instructor or Lecturer, anticipated to start August 2024. The selected candidate will contribute to the Themed Experience Master of Science and the Themed Experience Master of Fine Arts Track in Theatre's mission by teaching up to seven classes annually, and helping with recruiting new graduate students, overseeing industry internships, serving on thesis committees, making and maintaining industry connections, fundraising, curriculum management and assessment, and advisement.
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated with expertise in the visual arts and significant Themed Experience and attractions industry experience and accomplishments.
The College of Arts and Humanities, Themed Experience graduate programs are located the main campus of UCF, in the heart of the international hub of the themed entertainment industry. UCF Themed Experience has well-established industry connections and enjoys extensive academic collaborations at one of the nation's largest and most diverse colleges. UCF is one of the largest universities in the nation and with more than 70,000 students is the largest university by enrollment in Florida. It is at the center of the Florida High Tech Corridor where industries include software, defense, space, simulation and training, and entertainment. Adjacent to UCF is a thriving research park that conducts over $2 billion in funded research. Minimum Qualifications
  • Non-terminal degree (for an instructor) in a related field from an accredited institution or an equivalent degree (honors in studio art) or a terminal degree (for a lecturer) or equivalent from an accredited institution in art and design or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in themed entertainment design and production.
  • Higher education teaching experience in Themed Experience or entertainment design.
  • A history of working with teams, especially teams that span multiple disciplines.
  • Experience mentoring and critiquing students and recent graduates.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A graduate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in art and design or a related field is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior university-level teaching experience.
  • Professional experience in design and production of notable Themed Experience and attractions.
