The Opportunity
The Department of Nursing Practice in the College of Nursing at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for one full-time, 12-month, non-tenure earning Instructor or Lecturer position to primarily facilitate the simulation portion of clinical courses for the undergraduate nursing program, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program (lecturer only), and/or the Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs (lecturer only). The positions will primarily be located on the UCF Orlando main campus and will require travel to the regional campuses. The anticipated start date is summer or fall 2024.
The selected candidate will work collaboratively with nursing colleagues and colleagues from other disciplines, maintain clinical practice competence, remain actively involved in professional organizations, maintain scholarship in their field, and actively seek opportunities for and participate in the College of Nursing faculty governance.
Responsibilities and expectations include:
  • Facilitating the simulation portion of clinical and lab courses in the undergraduate nursing program (Instructor or Lecturer), the DNP program, and/or the Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs (lecturer only) based on expertise and qualifications. Applicants will be provided the appropriate training and mentorship to teach using simulation pedagogy.
  • Teaching the laboratory and direct clinical care portion of Nursing courses in the undergraduate nursing program (Instructor or Lecturer), the DNP program, and/or Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs (lecturer only) based on area of expertise and qualifications.
  • Teaching didactic nursing courses in the undergraduate (Instructor or Lecturer), DNP, and/or Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs (lecturer) as qualified, if needed.
  • The selected candidate will spend up to 90% of their time facilitating and working in simulation.
  • Creating, updating, and validating simulation cases, assisting in lab schedules, as well as open lab days.
  • If not currently a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), will apply to become certified after two (2) years of simulation experience once eligible.
  • Local travel to other campuses will be required (e.g., Daytona and Cocoa campuses).
  • Work some evenings and occasional weekends is required.
  • Other duties include mentorship; precepting graduate students in simulation-based pedagogy (lecturer only); participating in planning, organizing, and developing curriculum for the nursing programs; service to college and university committees.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution by date of hire (instructor), or a doctorate in Nursing from an accredited institution by date of hire (lecturer).
  • Unencumbered RN license. Florida licensure expected by date of hire, with upgrade to multi-status within the first semester of contract.
  • Active Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Unencumbered current APRN licensure in Florida.
  • Recent inpatient or outpatient clinical nursing experience (within past three years).
  • Recent clinical experience as Nurse Practitioner (within past 1 year).
  • National certification as Nurse Practitioner.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
  • For some of the programs, ACSL certification is required.
  • At least one year of experience teaching in simulation-based education.
  • Recent undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience (within past two years).
  • Recent experience in teaching using online platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate instructional technologies in simulated settings and/or the classroom.
  • Demonstrated scholarship (e.g., publications, national presentations) and active participation in community and/or professional health and nursing organizations.
