Job description

Major/Essential Functions
  • Supervises residents and medical students in a clinical setting
  • Provides performance evaluations, skills testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows and medical students
  • Participates in resident and faculty recruitment
  • Attends and participates in morbidity-mortality and journal clubs
  • Provides patient care in the Emergency Department
  • Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in the Emergency Department
  • Engages in scholarship and clinical quality improvement initiatives within the department
  • Assists the Department Chair with the implementation of departmental policies and monitoring staffing effectiveness
  • Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance such as committee work and Emergency Medicine professional organizations
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with education of residents and medical students
  • Evidence or growth in clinical, teaching, and research activities related to the specialty
  • Knowledge of medical Spanish
  • ACLS/PALS/ATLS certifications
  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine for the rank of assistant professor or Higher
  • Focused Practice Designation in advanced Emergency Medicine ultrasonography by the American Board of Emergency Medicine
  • Regional or emerging national reputation for the rank of associate professor or Higher

Pay Statement

Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree
  • Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine
  • Successful completion of advanced Emergency Medicine ultrasonography fellowship training, or experience in Emergency Medicine ultrasonography with evidence of a minimum of 200 reviewed scans
  • Valid unrestricted medical license or eligibility for medical license in the State of Texas
