Job Description
- Must have extensive experience in the construction trades (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Low Voltage, and/or Carpentry)
- NCCER certified or eligible.
- Develop trade-specific student evaluations.
- Use all NCCER and other available teaching materials, discover additional learning aids.
- Prepare lessons plans, tests and performance profiles well in advance of class time.
- Be prepared to teach, show confidence, be enthusiastic.
- Discover new ways to keep student involvement and participation.
- Mentor students – first name basis – provide instructor contact information.
- Create an atmosphere of safety, insist on Safety First.
- Emphasize working safely, being able to identify job related hazards.
- Monitor attendance and reach out to absentees, maintain/update student contact info & employer.
- Record test scores, maintain and file records, assist with completed OJT forms.
- Reschedule, not cancel classes.
- Promptly notify students of schedule changes.
- Keep Program Director and Director of Instruction informed of student needs and course materials.
- Be an ambassador for Skilled Trades of West Alabama outside of class.
- Ability to pass a background check and random drug screens.
