Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties
Provides quality instruction for students taking Natural Resources Technology program courses, including FT228 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems and others as available (). Advises students, assists with program budgeting, maintains classrooms, labs and field sites in compliance with safety requirements, and reports any lab/field equipment or infrastructure maintenance needs. Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practices and service activities. Instructs courses online as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Instructs students in a classroom, lab, online, learning center or other setting (such as field sites) as appropriate.
  2. Teaches courses with a primary focus on Natural Resources Technology and geographic information systems.
  3. Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds.
  4. Convenes classes, labs, and examinations on time and as scheduled.
  5. Provides opportunities for course-related student interactions before or after class, virtually, in person, or through office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
  6. Adheres to all College policies, practices, and timelines related to evaluation and grading.
  7. Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students in each course. Maintains and revises curriculum to maintain currency.
  8. Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials as appropriate;
  9. Incorporates the latest classroom technology, when available and appropriate, into instructional activities.
  10. Participates in and collects data for educational assessment as directed by the department, division, and College.
  11. Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices. Provides for the safety of student and staff and the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate. Reports any lab/field equipment or infrastructure maintenance needs.
  12. Understands and abides by College policies and regulations and other policies, procedures and materials as required or directed.
  13. Utilizes technology as required and appropriate to perform office, service, and instructional functions.

Additional Duties
  1. May participate in professional development activities and attend in-service sessions and division meetings.
  2. May direct aides and work-study students as assigned.
  3. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, forestry, wildlife, biology, geographic information systems or related field
Experience/Training:
  • Minimum (3) years field experience in forestry, wildlife, Natural Resources, or related
  • Experience integrating principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practices and service activities

Desired Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Master's degree in Natural Resources, forestry, wildlife, biology, geographic information systems or related field;
  • College level teaching experience, preferably at a community college
  • Knowledge of, and ability to utilize high engagement instructional practices during instruction
  • Experience incorporating cultural literacy principles into instruction
  • Knowledge of open educational resources (OER) materials
  • Experience utilizing OER materials in class.

Salary
Salary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past education and/or experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.

Sick Leave
New hires will receive eight (8) hours of sick leave upon hire. An ILC instructor will receive one hour per term of paid sick leave per ILC, which includes Special Loading. An hourly instructor or tutor will receive one hour of paid sick leave per 11 hours of employment. Unused sick leave will accumulate up to a maximum of 80 hours and be available for use in subsequent academic terms.
Tuition Waiver Plan
Each employee will be eligible for a full tuition waiver, which is equivalent to 24 credits, for each term in which the employee is working for the College. Such waiver may be used for tuition for credit courses or the fee in lieu of tuition for noncredit courses (commonly called Fee B). Such tuition waivers are not cumulative. However, an employee may use a tuition waiver in the term immediately following the term in which the waiver was earned. Employees and their spouses/domestic partners will pay only course-specific fees. Tuition waiver(s) may be assigned by the employee to his/her immediate family (to one or amongst the family) to be used in the term in which the waiver is earned by the employee or the term immediately following the term in which the waiver was earned.
