Job Purpose:

The Instructor Coordinator position supports the Career Services Department in the instruction of the Absolute Advantage Plus pre-apprenticeship curriculum and other career readiness related trainings. Ensuring that curriculum and exam services delivery occurs properly. In addition, this role will support retention activities, case management and job placement.


Essential Duties:

  • Monitor student progress to ensure successful progress toward obtaining NCCER and OSHA-10 certificates.
  • Teach carpentry skills (including construction math, hand tools, power tools, contruction drawing, basic rigging, communication skills, employability skills, material handling and Career Enhancement Skills.
  • Help students explore construction careers such as carpentry, concrete finishing, electrical, heavy equipment operator, HVAC, plumbing and roofing.
  • Responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the course curriculum in conjunction with help, advice and guidance by supervisors. Regular review, assessment and recommendation of changes as necessary.
  • Prepares daily teaching plan and presents material in alignment with the curriculum and course schedule. Ability to modify instruction, as needed to meet the needs of all students.
  • Maintain a learning environment where students are encouraged to ask questions.
  • Assist with data entry and case management into all systems related to the program or agency for data tracking and performance.
  • Coordinates all hands-on teaching-related activities according to established syllabus and course outline.
  • Prepares program progress reports on course progress including student attendance in aggregate and individual student class performance, as designated for different purposes such as reports for management.
  • Recommends and evaluates each student’s performance for course completion.
  • Assist in the recruitment of potential students, facilitate information sessions and orientation for new students.
  • Attends staff meetings and other meetings as assigned and participates in agency activities as needed.
  • Works to achieve all applicable program goals in a teamwork approach.
  • Supervise off-site work-experience at various work-sites when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Skills/qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must have strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflict.
  • Possess sound judgment, problem-solve, and work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to convey material and lessons to an individual or group in multiple styles to allow for effective learning.
  • Organizational skills and teaching experience, able to coach and motivate students.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer and excel skills, ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Previous background in construction and be able to speak effectively in that regard.
  • Possess experience in lesson planning and teaching.

Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • NCCER Facilitators Training Certification required within 45 days of hire.

During the performance of his/her duties, the incumbent will regularly lift to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
