Instructional Specialist - Academic Achievement
 

Job Title:Instructional Specialist - Academic AchievementReports To: Building Principal Classification: Professional Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Days: 212 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Administrative/Professional Pay Plan, Pay Grade 104 Contract: Probationary/Term Date Revised: 4/13/2023 Primary Purpose: Responsible for improving Academic Achievement and ensure on time graduation and reduce the drop-out rate of at-risk students. The Academic Achievement specialist will provide students and staff with comprehensive supports that are accessible, timely and strength based so they can achieve in school.   Qualifications/Skills:Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Valid Texas teacher certification or teaching certificate from out of state appropriate to position.
  • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong pedagogy knowledge required.
  • Exceptional communication skills required.
  • Knowledge and experience in curriculum and instructional strategy implementation, intervention and working with at risk students required.
  • Exceptional understanding of data reporting, implication of data reports, effective implementation of response to data.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of district and state assessments.
  • Exceptional record keeping and student monitoring procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with rigorous curriculum and instructional strategy required. Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and research-based best practices including (but not limited to) project-based learning, differentiated instruction, lesson planning and student assessment required.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development for coaching duties, such as that will teach strategies and best practices for mentoring, facilitating and training required. Evidence of skills in planning, organization and collaboration required.
  • Knowledge and experience in coaching and training preferred. Facilitation, training, and presentation skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of effective professional development practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of English Language Learners (ELL) strategies preferred. Passion for increasing student learning preferred. Knowledge of adult learning methodology preferred. Knowledge of RtI Strategies preferred.
Experience:
  • Evidence of at least three (3) years of recent successful classroom teaching experience required.
  • Experience using student and campus level data to select, implement and differentiate instructional methods, designed to meet each student's individual needs preferred.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:
Instructional Strategies:
  • Conduct needs analysis to identify and support at risk students-current reclassified students and at risk of not maintaining credit status with their cohort.
  • Collaborate with campus personnel to distribute and analyze disaggregated achievement data, including but not limited to progress reports, report cards, district PSAs, and the State of Texas Academic Assessment Readiness (STAAR).
  • Maintain, according to current district procedures, electronic databases necessary to track, document and monitor individuals and targeted groups of students who did not meet expectations on the STAAR and district benchmarks.
  • Create individualized supports/plans for indicated students.
  • Conduct regular checkpoint meetings with targeted students.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Leadership Team and attendance team to monitor attendance, progress reports, report cards and assessment data for at risk students and to facilitate interventions and debrief action plans.
  • Conduct data analysis of student progress/report card at each quarter. Review teacher grade reporting (analysis of failure rates) and create targeted action plans based on data analysis.
  • In conjunction with the leadership team, facilitate the decision point meetings. Provide the data and reports necessary for review of progress and assessment of student needs.
  • Assist in the identification of students for curricular intervention programs.
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate the implementation of interventions. Record and/or monitor attendance of students in the interventions.
  • Interventions include but are not limited to:
    1. Individual conferences or goal setting with students and/or staff members (revisited at a nine-week basis)
    2. Mentor Programs-teacher liaisons
    3. Adjustment to course placements
    4. Scheduling options per district guidelines
    5. Increased instructional time (e.g. campus pullouts, tutoring, advisory activities, recovery of credit-minimester, reteach opportunities)
  • Provide information or reports sorted by targeted groups, programs, or interventions.
  • Disseminate testing information, supports and data status updates to both campus personnel and parents.
  • Provide training to campus personnel on the use of district data.
  • Facilitate training and coaching in areas that include but are not limited to: effective instruction, differentiation, strategies for English Language Learners, data-driven instruction, School City, reteach/extension, STAAR training, and STAAR prep resources.
  • Provide support, mentoring, coaching, and training for identified teachers and campus administrators which results in a school culture that practices building and maintaining positive relationships with all students.
  • teaching and learning needs at each campus and organize and implement problem-solving strategies with teachers and administrators.
  • Assist teachers (in-teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills with working with special population of students.   Methods of instruction may include professional development opportunities for reteach/extension planning and implementation, small group interventions and individualized learning activities. Facilitate opportunities for in-class coaching, peer observation, co-teaching, and modeling effective instruction using a gradual release structure.
  • Support teachers in differentiating plans for students based on their unique learning profiles so that all students are engaged and challenged and each student's achieves.
  • Assist teachers with tracking data to determine the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitate protocols for assessment of student work to drive instructional decisions.
Professional Growth and Development:
  • Assist with design and implementation of high-quality building-level professional development.
Other:
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
