TITLE: Instructional Paraprofessional - Licensed Practical Nurse - Bailey ES
JOB STATUS: FLSA Overtime Eligible
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
DEPARTMENT: Academics and Student Learning
PAY RANGE: Six (6)

POSITION SUMMARY: To work closely with students identified as having a disability in an effort to provide them with the physical, emotional, behavioral, and academic support necessary to gain full benefits from the district's special education program.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN) or Registered Nursing School (RN).
  • ONE of the following requirements is needed for compliance:
  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as 48 semester or 72 quarter hours as verified by college transcript from an accredited institution of higher education); OR
  • Obtain an associate (or higher) degree from an accredited institution of higher education (defined as any associate degree program from an accredited institution of higher education); OR
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment -- (i) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics; or (ii) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in readiness for reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Completion of a course in medication administration approved by Ohio Board of Nursing preferred for LPN's.
  • Good human relations with an ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
  • A neat appearance.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Works closely with students who are medically fragile to provide the necessary medical care and treatments to gain full benefits from the district's Special Education Program.
  • Responsible for implementing physician orders to administer student's medications and nutrition via g-tube under the direction of the licensed school nurse.
  • Contributes to the planning, implementation and evaluation of students' assisted feeding plan and other nursing care plans.
  • Documents all nursing care provided to students.
  • Assists the school nurse in the development of students' individual health care plan.
  • Utilizes professional knowledge to evaluate signs and symptoms of illness and injury.
  • Consults with the school nurse as needed to provide skilled nursing care to medically fragile students.
  • Participates in professional development as required to maintain nursing licensure and professional growth.
  • Assists students in the completion of classroom activities assigned by the Intervention Specialist.
  • Assists the Intervention Specialist in routine classroom and school ativities, implementation of IEP servivces, behavior plans, student assessment, playground and lunch duty.
  • Assists in the preparation of classroom materials, displays, and individual student accommodations and modifications.
  • Assists special education students in regular education classes, including attending class with student and providing student supports as needed and or indicated on IEP.
  • Assists Intervention Specialist in maintain a good learning environment, including classroom management.
  • Assists students with personal health care needs such as toileting, personal hygiene and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Participates in professional growth activities.
  • Ensures the safety of students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
  • Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
  • Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
  • Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
  • Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 191 Days (183 work days, 8 paid holidays); 7 hours per day excluding lunch to be established by Superivosr. Salary as provided by Negotiated Agreement. Work year to be established by the Board of Education.
SALARY: $23.53/HR. - $25.91/HR.
