Woodbridge School DistrictSuccessful candidate is required to attain an Instructional Para permit through the Delaware Department of Education within 30 days of hire.
Candidates for an Instructional Paraeducator Permit must submit documentation of the following requirements. To ensure speedy processing, please ensure that you follow the document guidelines for submission.
  • Documentation to demonstrate that the candidate has one of the following:
    • Completion of at least two (2) years of study in general or educational studies at an institute of higher education (consisting of 60 credit hours of a 'C' or better) OR
    • Receipt of an associate's degree or higher OR
    • Completion of a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and a passing score on a rigorous assessment of knowledge or and the ability to assist in, the instruction in reading, writing, and mathematic (e.g. ParaPro assessment with a qualifying score of 459 or higher or other approved alternative)
  • Documentation may include:
    • Official transcript from a regionally accredited college or university OR an official high school transcript
    • Official Test scores should be forwarded to the DDOE electronically upon your request. Educational Testing Service (ETS) administers the ParaPro exam. Please use Reporting Code R7065.
SUMMARY:
Assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assists in small group pupil instruction.
  • Tutors pupils at Teacher's request.
  • May assist teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions.
  • Prepares materials for specialized instructional units.
  • Maintains attendance reports.
  • May operate standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, audio visual equipment, etc.
  • May escort children to and from various rooms.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma. Pass Paraprofessional Test or 60 college credit hours.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:
Paraprofessional Certification from the Department of Education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent; as well as draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagraph form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Previous work in childcare. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
