Title: Instructional Designer
Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: This position is rated at level 4 with full benefit package and annual salary of $63,995 commensurate with the Agreement between the MCCS Trustees and the MEA Administrators Unit.
Summary:
The Instructional Designer plays a vital role in the development, design, and implementation of high-quality instructional materials and resources at York County Community College. Collaborating closely with faculty, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, the Instructional Designer leverages instructional design principles and technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience for students. The primary objective is to create engaging, effective, and accessible educational content that promotes student success and supports the goals of the community college.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Design and Development:
- Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and develop learning objectives.
- Design and develop engaging instructional materials, such as online courses, modules, multimedia presentations, assessments, and learning activities.
- Incorporate active learning strategies, assessment techniques, and appropriate educational technologies into instructional design.
- Apply universal design principles to ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all instructional materials.
Technology Integration:
- Evaluate and recommend instructional technologies and tools to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
- In conjunction with the Instructional Technology Coordinator, assist faculty in integrating technology into their instructional practices, including learning management systems (LMS), multimedia tools, and other educational software.
- Provide training and support to faculty and staff on the effective use of instructional technologies.
Collaboration and Consultation:
- Collaborate with faculty, instructional teams, and other stakeholders to provide instructional design expertise and guidance.
- Consult with subject matter experts to identify and gather relevant learning resources and materials.
- Participate in curriculum development and revision efforts to align instructional materials with established standards and best practices.
- Facilitate workshops and professional development sessions on instructional design strategies and technologies.
Quality Assurance and Assessment:
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of instructional materials to ensure adherence to instructional design principles, learning objectives, and accessibility standards.
- Conduct formative and summative evaluations of instructional materials and make recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in the collection and analysis of data related to instructional design and student learning outcomes.
Professional Development:
- Stay current with emerging trends, research, and best practices in instructional design and educational technology.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and training sessions to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in instructional design practices.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field
- 4 years' experience in curriculum development and course design
- Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field
- 4 + years’ experience in curriculum design and course design in a community college setting
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and educational technology integration.
- Proficiency in instructional design models, principles, and best practices.
- Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and other educational technologies.
- Familiarity with multimedia authoring tools, eLearning authoring tools, and graphic design software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and other stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Experience in higher education or community college settings is preferred.
