JOB TITLE: Instructional Coordinator Core Curriculum
LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 220 days
REPORTS TO: Directors of Curriculum and Instruction
PAY GRADE: A4 In accordance with Board-approved salary schedule DEPARTMENT: Curriculum and Instruction

This position is eligible for a Chapter 21 contract.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To develop, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the district curriculum and instruction initiatives that increase student academic achievement. Collaborate with all department coordinators, campus staff, and other district personnel to develop a vertically aligned, research-based, and effective program that meets the academic needs of all students in the subject area assigned. Organize, facilitate, and conduct professional learning to support the district curriculum and instruction initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
  • Master's Degree required
  • Valid Texas Teacher's Certificate in the content area assigned
  • ESL supplemental preferred
  • Valid Texas Bilingual preferred
  • GT Endorsement preferred
  • For elementary, Reading Academy completion preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills
      • Specific knowledge of the assigned content area including state standards, research-based practices, policies, and accountability.
      • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and instruction, including planning and facilitating professional learning.
      • Knowledge in the selection, training, and supervision of personnel
      • General knowledge of all elementary and secondary curriculum areas
      • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and other district personnel.

Minimum Experience:
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in curriculum area; secondary and elementary experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Curriculum Development and Instructional Management
  1. Supervise and support the implementation of curriculum, assessment, and instructional initiatives that increase student achievement by using data and research-based practices.
  2. Collaborate with the Department of Professional Learning and other stakeholders to plan and conduct workshops, conferences, and teacher training institutes that improve the quality of instruction using proven best practices.
  3. Design, recruit, train, monitor, and evaluate curriculum writing activities, assessments, and professional learning sessions to ensure a guaranteed and viable district curriculum.
  4. Collaborate with all other directors and stakeholders in the evaluation and selection of state-adopted textbooks, assessments, and other curriculum materials
  5. Keep Division Directors informed concerning pertinent aspects of the instructional program
  6. Solicit regular input and foster collegiality among other team members and district staff.
  7. Serve on district committees and task forces that pertain to curriculum and instruction

School/Organizational Climate and Improvement:
  1. Facilitate two-way communication to and from the school, concerning all aspects of school and District programs, policies, accountability, and other issues impacting student achievement and success
  2. Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of the District Improvement Plan including the design of performance objectives and strategies for academic improvement using data and stakeholder input to inform decisions.
  3. All other duties as assigned

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management:
  1. Adhere to fiscal policies and appropriately allocate assigned funds based on documented program needs and cost-effective strategies.
  2. Assist in securing additional funding through grants and private corporations

Student Management:
  1. Facilitate the development of criteria for proper placement of students in courses

School/Community Relations:
  1. Establish and maintain a professional relationship with district leaders, principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.
  2. Plan, prepare and/or participate in district/community projects, programs and contests designed to display educational achievement
  1. Articulate the district's mission, instructional philosophy, and instructional programming to the community and solicit its support in realizing the district's mission.

Professional Growth and Development:
  1. Stay abreast of current policies and research by practice, by attending conferences, workshops, and reading professional literature
  2. Join, participate in, and work on committees associated with professional organizations

Professional Practices:
  1. Abide by the Professional Code of Ethics
  2. Adhere to all Board policies and District administrative procedures

EQUIPMENT USED:
Personal computer, printer, digital copier, fax machine, mail meter, multi-line phone system, radio communication equipment, digital camera, scanners, industrial shredder.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions, reading, concentrating, communicating (verbal and written), coordinating, compiling, copying, sorting, computing and summarizing.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; handle equipment; and communicate effectively. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Be able to routinely travel within the district and for training.
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
