Job Summary:
To assist pharmacists in providing drug distribution and technical services associated with the preparation, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals within the Inpatient Pharmacy environment. Also prepares sterile and oncology IV medications using appropriate aseptic technique.
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:
• Promotes excellence in customer service through teamwork, leadership, decision-making, problem-solving and communication.
• Ensures the customer's expectations have been met or exceeded.
• Aids in the accurate preparation and dispensing of prescriptions in the Inpatient Pharmacy.
• Assists in ordering, receiving and stocking pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations. Identifies, pulls, and replaces outdated stock when necessary. Participates in inventory control functions.
• Maintains logs, files and other required documentation in appropriate locations.
• Prepares sterile and hazardous products following departmental guidelines and aseptic techniques.
• Repackages medications in unit-dose system.
• Maintains PYXIS Med-stations accurately (refilling, loading and out-dating)
• Promotes teamwork within the department.
• Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department. Shows initiative to correct problems and improve processes.
• Effective communication with employees and patients of UTHSCT.
• Maintains a neat, clean and organized work area.
• Adheres to internal controls established for the department.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required Education / Experience:
• High school or equivalent degree
• Previous experience preferred.
Required Licenses / Certification:
Texas State Board of Pharmacy registration required.
